Smart Lighting that work with Home Assistant: the 24 that do, and what each one can't do

24 of the 36 smart lighting in our library work with Home Assistant: 19 for everything they list, and 5 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Home Assistant specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Home Assistant's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Sorted by how much we’ve verified — a statement about our research, not a ranking of the products.✓ works · ◐ works, with an exception ·✗ doesn’t work (verified) · ? not checked yet

Work for everything they list

  1. IKEA KAJPLATS LED Bulb E26 1100 lm White Spectrum

IKEA does not name Home Assistant. The path is HA's official Matter integration (local push), which supports certified Matter devices generically; there is no KAJPLATS-specific listing on either side, and HA's own caveat applies — Matter carries the basics, not product-specific extras. Same basis and level as the sibling KAJPLATS color and MYGGSPRAY records.

  2. IKEA KAJPLATS LED Bulb E26 Color + White Spectrum

IKEA does not name Home Assistant. The path is HA's official Matter integration (local push), which supports certified Matter devices generically; there is no KAJPLATS-specific listing on either side. A community Zigbee2MQTT path also exists via the bulb's IKEA-undocumented Zigbee fallback mode.

  3. TP-Link Tapo L535E Color Bulb (Matter)

Use HA's Matter integration (fully local) — the native TP-Link (Kasa/Tapo) integration's docs do not list the L535E, so do not count on it; Tapo-app light effects stay in the Tapo app.

  4. LIFX SuperColor Smart Light 1-Pack (1100 Lumens)

Home Assistant ships a LIFX integration that finds the bulbs on your network by itself, with no account linking and no cloud in the path. It covers colour, brightness and white temperature, adds identify and restart buttons and a Wi-Fi signal-strength sensor that starts switched off, and runs Home Assistant's own colour-loop and pulse effects. The built-in LIFX effects it lists, such as Flame, Morph and Move, are for other LIFX lights, not this bulb. It is Home Assistant's work, not LIFX's, so it is Home Assistant that keeps it running.

  5. Philips Hue Essential A19

Needs the Hue Bridge — HA's official Hue integration is bridge-based with local control (local push). Matter via the bridge gives basic light control only; dynamic scenes and entertainment mode need the Hue integration or app.

  6. LIFX SuperColor 40" Lightstrip Kit (700 Lumens)

Home Assistant's own LIFX integration controls LIFX lights over your home network, with no account linking and no LIFX cloud: on/off, brightness, color and color temperature. It names the Lightstrip among the multizone lights, so the strip's moving effects run from Home Assistant too. It is Home Assistant's work rather than LIFX's, so it is Home Assistant that keeps it running.

  7. Nanoleaf Matter Smart Multicolor Lightstrip 16.4ft

Home Assistant turns it on and off and sets brightness, colour and colour temperature through its own Matter support, which runs locally. Nanoleaf does not name Home Assistant, and Home Assistant's own Nanoleaf integration does not cover this lightstrip, so Matter is the route. The effects and scenes stay in the Nanoleaf app.

  8. Philips Hue White & Color Ambiance A19

Full local control via the Hue Bridge — the official Hue integration is bridge-only, local push. Pairing the bulb straight to a Zigbee dongle also works but uses a different integration (ZHA), outside the Hue app ecosystem.

  9. Nanoleaf Matter Smart Multicolor HD Lightstrip 16.4ft

Home Assistant turns it on and off and sets brightness, colour and colour temperature through its own Matter support, which runs locally. Nanoleaf does not name Home Assistant, and Home Assistant's own Nanoleaf integration does not cover this HD lightstrip, so Matter is the route. The effects and scenes stay in the Nanoleaf app.

  10. Nanoleaf Matter Smart Multicolor Rope Light 16.4ft

Home Assistant turns it on and off and sets brightness, colour and colour temperature through its own Matter support, which runs locally. Nanoleaf does not name Home Assistant, and Home Assistant's own Nanoleaf integration does not cover this rope light, so Matter is the route. The effects and scenes stay in the Nanoleaf app.

  11. Govee COB Strip Light Pro

Home Assistant's built-in 'Govee lights local' integration controls these over your own home network rather than through Govee's cloud — but you have to switch on local network control in the Govee app first, or Home Assistant will not find the light at all.

  12. WiZ Mobile Portable Light

⊕ The deepest cell on this record, and it comes entirely from the other side — WiZ names Home Assistant nowhere. Home Assistant ships an OFFICIAL WiZ integration with IoT class 'Local Push', and its own description is unambiguous about the architecture: it 'allows you to control your WiZ lights and smart sockets. The devices are set up through your Wi-Fi network and don't need any additional bridge or gateway.' That is a fully local control path with no WiZ cloud in it and no hub to buy — better, in the way that matters most to a self-hosting household, than any of the three voice platforms WiZ actually advertises. The integration exposes light entities among several platform types. ⚠ One setting decides whether this works, and it lives in WiZ's app rather than Home Assistant's: local communication must be enabled. Home Assistant's documentation states that 'Allow local communication' can be disabled or enabled in the WiZ app and should be enabled by default — so if it has been turned off, the local path is off with it. Rated 'full' on an explicit device-class match: the integration covers WiZ lights generally rather than naming this model, and that is the claim on this record most exposed to a future per-model list proving narrower. Home Assistant lists WiZ among its lights, so on/off, brightness, color and white color temperature all work there.

  13. Govee Strip Light 2 Pro

Home Assistant's built-in 'Govee lights local' integration controls these over your own home network rather than through Govee's cloud, but you have to switch on local network control in the Govee app first. Home Assistant also notes that some scenes may not be available from every device.

  14. Govee Floor Lamp 3

Home Assistant turns it on and off and sets brightness, colour and colour temperature through its own Matter support, which runs locally. Govee does not name Home Assistant. The scenes and effects stay in the Govee app. You need IPv6 on your network, and setup needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

  15. Govee 21-Inch Smart Ceiling Light Ultra

Home Assistant turns it on and off and sets brightness, colour and colour temperature through its own Matter support, which runs locally. Home Assistant's community Govee local integration also lists this model. That route needs LAN control turned on in the Govee Home app. Govee does not name Home Assistant. The scenes and effects stay in the Govee app. You need IPv6 on your network, and setup needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

  16. Philips Hue Festavia White & Color Ambiance String Lights (65 ft, 250 LEDs)

A Hue Bridge is required. Home Assistant's own Hue integration controls the lights connected to the bridge, so brightness, color and color temperature work from Home Assistant, and Hue scenes you build in the Hue app come across as scenes you can trigger. The animated effects these string lights are sold for stay in the Hue app, and building or editing Hue scenes from inside Home Assistant is not supported.

  17. Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism

Home Assistant controls these lights through its built-in Matter integration: brightness, color and color temperature. Home Assistant's local Govee integration does not list this model, so Matter is the way in; the lights are Matter-certified and Home Assistant's Matter integration covers lights. The effects stay in the Govee app. You need Home Assistant's own Matter Server app, installed from inside Home Assistant.

  18. Sengled Matter Smart Bulb A19 (W41-N15A)

Appears as a generic Matter light

  19. Govee Smart Edison Bulb G25 (Matter)

Home Assistant's own Govee lights local integration lists this bulb's model, the H14C1, and controls it over your home network: on and off, brightness, colour and colour temperature. Switch on local control in the Govee app first, or Home Assistant will not find the bulb. Govee does not name Home Assistant for this bulb, and the scenes and effects stay in the Govee app. Govee also advertises Matter for this bulb, but a Matter certification for the H14C1 is not confirmed.

Work, with an exception

  1. Eve Flare

    Works; color temperature unconfirmed

Home Assistant's own HomeKit Device integration controls this lamp locally, with no Apple account, and it supports HomeKit lights, so on/off, brightness and color come across. Color temperature is unconfirmed: neither Home Assistant nor Eve says whether white tones carry over. The catch is that a HomeKit accessory pairs with one controller at a time, so adding the lamp to Home Assistant takes it out of Apple Home, and it has to be reset first.

  2. Philips Hue Festavia Globe Bulb String Lights (45 ft)

    Works; brightness unconfirmed

A Hue Bridge is required. Home Assistant's own Hue integration brings in the lights connected to the bridge, so these lights turn on and off and change color and color temperature from Home Assistant, and Hue scenes you build in the Hue app come across as scenes you can trigger. Brightness is unconfirmed in Home Assistant: Home Assistant's page does not name Festavia and Hue does not say whether you can dim these lights from there. The gradient effects these lights are sold for stay in the Hue app, and building or editing Hue scenes inside Home Assistant is not supported.

  3. Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2

Works; brightness and color temperature unconfirmed

Two routes. Home Assistant's own local Govee integration lists this product's model numbers (H705D, H705E and H705F) and runs on your home network once local control is switched on following Govee's instructions; Home Assistant notes that some scenes may not work on every device. The lights also pair through Home Assistant's Matter support. Either way color comes across; brightness and color temperature are unconfirmed, because Govee does not say this light offers them outside its app. The effects stay in Govee's app.

  4. Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro (100 ft, RGBICWW)

    Partial

Home Assistant's govee_light_local integration explicitly lists H706A, H706B and H706C. Requires enabling LAN control per Govee's WLAN guide, and Home Assistant notes some scenes may not be supported from all devices.

  5. Philips Hue Festavia Permanent Outdoor Lights (150 ft)

If your home isn’t only Home Assistant

Of the 19 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.
