Needs before it works: No hub, and no bridge — the strip has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in the controller and is Matter-certified over Wi-Fi, so Apple Home and SmartThings pair to it directly. Home Assistant is the one route with a setup step people miss: the local integration needs LAN control switched on inside the Govee app first, and until it is, the strip is invisible to it.^[5]

• Adhesive is single-shot — plan the run before peeling; Govee sells the backing as 'custom acrylic backing for stronger adhesion', which cuts both ways. Two limits the box copy states and buyers routinely miss: the strip is cuttable but NON-extendable, and strips cannot be chained together, so the length you choose is the length you have. Indoor only — it is not waterproof. Firmware updates come through the Govee app, and the Home Assistant local route needs LAN control enabled in that app first.
• Security updates: No security-update support date is on record for this model yet. We haven't yet checked whether Govee publishes one, so this is a gap in our research — not a statement about the manufacturer.

Like all Govee gear, the effects engine lives in Govee's app — ecosystems get basic control only.

Dotless, diffused light-bar look for accent and cove runs, at a price that undercuts the bridge-based gradient strips — as long as the 9.8ft length fits the job, because the 16.4ft costs double.
