Compatibility
| Ecosystem | Support | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Alexa | WorksWorks with this ecosystem[7] | Cloud 'Govee Home' skill (account link). Music mode can surface in Alexa but drops out often enough that Govee publishes a fix — the effects engine lives in the Govee app. |
| Google Home | WorksWorks with this ecosystem[8] | Same cloud account link as the Alexa skill (Works with Google Home) — effects stay in the Govee app. |
| Apple Home | PartialPartial support — see the catch[9] | On/off, brightness, color temperature, and color only via Matter — RGBIC effects need the Govee app. |
| SmartThings | PartialPartial support — see the catch[10] | Same Matter pipe as the Apple cell: on/off, brightness, color temperature, and color only — RGBIC effects need the Govee app. |
| Home Assistant | WorksWorks with this ecosystem[11] | Core 'Govee lights local' integration — local LAN control is the mechanism, requires enabling the LAN API in the Govee app first; HA notes some scenes may not be supported from all devices. |
Protocols: WIFI · BLUETOOTH · MATTER[1][5][15]
Needs before it works: No hub and no bridge — Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are in the controller and the strip is Matter-certified over Wi-Fi, so Apple Home and SmartThings pair to it directly. The one setup step people miss is on the Home Assistant side: its local integration needs LAN control switched on inside the Govee app first, and until it is, the strip is invisible to it.[3]

- Alexa: Govee's own Matter FAQ (us.govee.com/pages/matter-faq, read 2026-08-20) states what crosses the Matter boundary in one sentence — "Switching on/off, brightness adjustment, color temperature adjustment, and color changing" — and adds "More features TBD". Everything this light is actually sold on (scene modes, DIY effects, segment control, music sync) lives in the Govee Home app and is not part of that list.

Listed capabilities are what we could establish from vendor documentation. An ability missing here is unestablished — not necessarily absent.
Subscription reality[4]
✓ Works without a subscription: Yes.
Vendor account required: Not established — we have not sourced this yet.
Maintenance reality[3]
- Works without the internet: Partly — some of it keeps working and some of it does not. See the detail below.[12]
- Adhesive is single-shot — buy mounting clips; firmware updates via the Govee app, and the Home Assistant local route needs LAN control enabled in that app first. Indoor use. Worth knowing before choosing a length: Govee sells a 3.28ft extension for this line at $19.99, so a run that comes up slightly short is not automatically a re-buy.
- Security updates: No security-update support date is on record for this model yet. We haven't yet checked whether Govee publishes one, so this is a gap in our research — not a statement about the manufacturer.
The catch
The RGBIC effects engine lives in Govee's app — ecosystems get basic control only.
Who it's for
For TV backlighting and accent lighting on a budget — pick the length carefully, since the cheapest 6.56ft option is frequently unavailable and the jump to 32.8ft is another $38. Skip it if you need whole-house Zigbee mesh reliability (see Hue).
