Setup Check
The compatibility checker answers one product at a time. Setup Check is the whole-plan version: send us the products you're considering (or already own), tell us what runs your home, and we research the full picture for you — in writing, with sources.
What you get
- Works / doesn't / why — every product on your list checked against your ecosystem(s), including the integration path (native, Matter, bridge) and its caveats.
- What you'd actually need — required hubs, bridges, or border routers you don't have yet, and what they cost.
- The subscription reality — which features are free, which are paywalled, and the five-year cost of the plans your list quietly assumes.
- Gaps — the things your list can't do that you probably expect it to.
- Swaps worth considering — where something on your list fits poorly, an alternative from our library with the reasoning spelled out.
- Sources and dates — every load-bearing claim carries a source and a verification date, same discipline as the rest of the site.
How it works
- Email us your product list, what runs your home (Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, SmartThings, Home Assistant — or "not sure yet"), and any constraints that matter: renter, budget, region, existing gear.
- We confirm the scope within one business day and send a secure payment link.
- Your report arrives within three business days of payment.
One check covers one setup or decision — a starter kit, a room, a "will these things work together" list. There's no arbitrary product cap; if your ask is bigger than one report can do well (a whole home, say), we'll tell you that up front and quote it before you pay anything.
What this is — and isn't
Setup Check is a research service built on the same method as the rest of the site: manufacturer documentation, certification registries, and published sources, checked by a human before delivery. It is not hands-on product testing, and we'll never pretend otherwise. It's also not electrical, security, or other professional advice — anything involving household wiring may need a licensed electrician under your local codes.
Our recommendations are never paid for by manufacturers, and reports link to our own product pages — which carry the sourcing — rather than retailer links.
Service terms
- Refunds: full refund any time before your report is delivered. If a delivered report doesn't answer the question you paid for, tell us within 14 days — we'll fix it or refund it.
- Accuracy: findings reflect manufacturer documentation and registries as of the delivery date. Firmware, cloud services, and product lines change; the report states its verification dates so you know exactly what was checked, and when.
- Your information: what you send us is used only to produce your report. It's never sold or shared.
- The fine print: the site's Terms of Service apply, including the compatibility-data disclaimer. Missouri law governs.
Pilot pricing — may change as we learn what these take to do well. Questions first? Ask us anything.
