Sensors & Detectors that work with Home Assistant: the 16 that do, and what each one can't do

16 of the 17 sensors & detectors in our library work with Home Assistant: 9 for everything they list, and 7 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Home Assistant specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Home Assistant's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Sorted by how much we’ve verified — a statement about our research, not a ranking of the products.✓ works · ◐ works, with an exception ·✗ doesn’t work (verified) · ? not checked yet

Work for everything they list

  1. SwitchBot Contact Sensor

Via Home Assistant's SwitchBot Bluetooth integration: local, no hub or cloud needed; exposes open/close, motion state, and battery. SwitchBot has also certified the Contact Sensor for Home Assistant over Bluetooth by name, so this route is backed by the maker as well as by Home Assistant's own documentation. The computer running Home Assistant needs working Bluetooth of its own.

  2. SwitchBot Meter Pro

Via Home Assistant's SwitchBot Bluetooth integration: local, no hub, exposes temperature/humidity/battery. Documented by Home Assistant, not by SwitchBot.

  3. SwitchBot Presence Sensor

The one ecosystem that does NOT need a hub — Home Assistant's Bluetooth integration talks to the sensor directly. A cloud integration also exists and that path does require a hub.

  4. Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2

Officially listed by Aqara; joins through Home Assistant's Matter integration, which needs the Matter server add-on plus a Thread border router.

  5. Eve Door & Window (3rd generation, Matter)

Officially badged 'Works with Home Assistant' on Eve's product page (Matter integration + Thread border router); history stays in the Eve/Apple ecosystem.

  6. Philips Hue Motion Sensor (indoor)

Home Assistant's own Hue integration reads this sensor through the Hue Bridge, with motion, light level and temperature as separate readings. Home Assistant says a square (V2) Bridge sends changes to it straight away over your home network, while the older round Bridge, which Home Assistant notes Signify no longer supports, is checked on a timer instead.

  7. Eve Motion (3rd generation, Matter)

Officially badged 'Works with Home Assistant' on Eve's product page (via HA's Matter support with a Thread border router); Eve-app history features do not carry over.

  8. Aqara Presence Sensor FP2

Aqara's own product page documents adding the FP2 via Home Assistant's HomeKit Controller integration — local, well-established, exposes zones and light sensor; zone configuration still lives in the Aqara app.

  9. THIRDREALITY Smart Presence Sensor R2

The route the vendor documents in most detail, naming the stacks rather than the brand: 'Home Assistant (ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT)'. A standard Zigbee 3.0 device on a local coordinator — no vendor cloud in the path, and the five sensitivity levels are exposed as device settings on a Zigbee coordinator rather than locked in a vendor app.

Work, with an exception

  1. IKEA MYGGBETT Door/Window Sensor

    Works; contact state unconfirmed

Home Assistant adds it through its own Matter support, which runs locally, and IKEA's sensor is Matter certified. IKEA does not name Home Assistant, and Home Assistant's Matter page does not say which sensor readings it shows, so the open and closed readings are unconfirmed. You need a Thread border router.

  2. IKEA MYGGSPRAY Wireless Motion Sensor

    Works; motion detected unconfirmed

Home Assistant adds it through its own Matter support, which runs locally, and IKEA's sensor is Matter certified. IKEA does not name Home Assistant, and Home Assistant's Matter page does not say which sensor readings it shows, so the motion readings are unconfirmed. You need a Thread border router.

  3. IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE Temperature/Humidity Sensor

    Works; temperature reading unconfirmed

Home Assistant's local Matter support provides the connection to your system; a Thread border router connects the sensor to your home network. IKEA does not name Home Assistant, and Home Assistant's documentation does not confirm this sensor's temperature reading. Check that reading before relying on it for an automation.

  4. SONOFF Zigbee Human Presence Sensor (SNZB-06P)

    Works; presence detected unconfirmed

SONOFF says it adds to Home Assistant through ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT, which needs a Zigbee coordinator. It does not list what Home Assistant shows for it.

  5. Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2

    Works; contact state unconfirmed

Connects through Home Assistant's Matter support: the sensor is Matter certified as a contact sensor. Whether its open or closed state reaches Home Assistant is unconfirmed: Home Assistant's Matter page does not name contact sensors among what it handles, and Aqara does not mention Home Assistant. You'll need Home Assistant's Matter server running plus a Thread border router on your network.

  6. Meross Matter Smart Presence Sensor (MS600)

Works; motion detected and presence detected unconfirmed

Home Assistant adds it through its own Matter support, which runs locally, and the sensor is Matter certified. Meross names Matter, HomeKit, Alexa and Google Home and does not name Home Assistant, and Home Assistant's Matter page does not say which sensor readings it shows, so motion and presence are unconfirmed.

  7. SONOFF SenseGuard Presence Core 24GHz Zigbee Presence Sensor (SNZB-06P24)

    Works; presence detected unconfirmed

SONOFF says it joins Home Assistant with a SONOFF Zigbee dongle, but that you currently need a script to add it to ZHA. It does not list what Home Assistant shows for it.

If your home isn’t only Home Assistant

Of the 9 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.
