Compatibility
| Ecosystem | Support | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Alexa | WorksWorks with this ecosystem[2][7] | No Alexa-specific listing exists; coverage rests on IKEA's blanket statement of compatibility with smart systems from Amazon, Apple, Google, Homey and Samsung, via standard Matter with a Thread border router on that platform.Setup path: Thread border router required — IKEA names its DIRIGERA hub as one option · Matter controller requiredIn Amazon Alexa you also need: a Thread border router · a Matter controller · a Ikea hub |
| Google Home | WorksWorks with this ecosystem[2][7] | Same basis: IKEA's blanket Matter-systems statement naming Google; no Google-specific listing. Thread border router on the Google side required.Setup path: Thread border router required — IKEA names its DIRIGERA hub as one option · Matter controller requiredIn Google Home you also need: a Thread border router · a Matter controller · a Ikea hub |
| Apple Home | WorksWorks with this ecosystem[2][7] | Same basis: IKEA's blanket Matter-systems statement naming Apple; no Apple-specific listing. Thread border router on the Apple side required.Setup path: Thread border router required — IKEA names its DIRIGERA hub as one option · Matter controller requiredIn Apple Home you also need: a Thread border router · a Matter controller · a Ikea hub |
| SmartThings | WorksWorks with this ecosystem[2][7] | Same basis: IKEA's blanket Matter-systems statement naming Samsung; no SmartThings-specific listing. Thread border router on the Samsung side required.Setup path: Thread border router required — IKEA names its DIRIGERA hub as one option · Matter controller requiredIn SmartThings you also need: a Thread border router · a Matter controller · a Ikea hub |
| Home Assistant | WorksWorks with this ecosystem[6][12] | IKEA does not name Home Assistant. The path is HA's official Matter integration (local push), whose supported-entity list includes binary sensors; there is no MYGGBETT-specific listing on either side.In Home Assistant you also need: a Thread border router · a Matter controller · a Ikea hub |
Protocols: MATTER · THREAD[1][3][9][16]
Needs before it works: Matter controller plus a Thread border router before phone or app control works — IKEA's page states you need a Thread Border Router such as its DIRIGERA hub. Per IKEA's compatibility statement, smart systems from Amazon, Apple, Google, Homey and Samsung apply, using that platform's own Thread border router. A hubless path exists and IKEA's manual documents it: the sensor pairs directly to IKEA smart products, 'a maximum of 10 smart products from IKEA' by direct pairing.[2][8]
What it can do[15]
You can tell it to
Not established — we could not confirm this from vendor documentation
It reports
- Contact state
Listed capabilities are what we could establish from vendor documentation. An ability missing here is unestablished — not necessarily absent.
Subscription reality[2][7]
✓ Works without a subscription: Yes.
Vendor account required: Not established — we have not sourced this yet.
No subscription referenced on the IKEA US product page, IKEA's smart-product support policy, or the launch press release.
Maintenance reality[5][8][10]
- Batteries: 1x rechargeable LADDA AAA (HR03) — sold separately, not included — expect roughly 15 months per set
- Works without the internet: Yes — the core function runs on the device or your home network. A vendor cloud may still be involved in remote access.[10]
- Matter over Thread runs locally; IKEA's support policy states smart products keep working, including on local networks without internet, after software support ends. Bluetooth is the commissioning radio (CSA cert); pairing is by QR code. Battery life is IKEA's own published figure: '1 x new LADDA AAA HR03 battery will power this sensor for about 15 months before it needs to be changed' (IKEA US manual AA-2664591-2). It appears in the manual, not on the product page — this record previously recorded no battery life because only the page had been read. A red LED shows when the battery is low, and battery status also appears in the IKEA Home smart app. Radio: 10 m range in open air, 2402–2480 MHz, 7 dBm EIRP. Operating temperature 0–40 °C (32–104 °F), and IKEA states 'use only indoors'. Support duration: at least 5 years after purchase per IKEA policy, conditional on pairing with a DIRIGERA hub or TRADFRI gateway; the policy does not address the term for Matter devices used only with a third-party controller.
- Security updates: No security-update support date is on record for this model yet. We haven't yet checked whether IKEA publishes one, so this is a gap in our research — not a statement about the manufacturer.
The catch
Matter over Thread only — without a Thread border router (DIRIGERA or another platform's) plus a Matter controller no phone or ecosystem can reach it, though IKEA's manual does document pairing it straight to up to ten IKEA products with no system at all. The required rechargeable LADDA AAA battery is sold separately, so the $11.99 sticker is not the working price; IKEA rates that battery at about 15 months. Indoor only, per IKEA's own warning.
Who it's for
Households already running a Thread border router in any Matter ecosystem who want door and window open/close triggers at the lowest price in the category, and DIRIGERA homes extending IKEA's own sensor lineup.
