Sensors & Detectors that work with Apple Home: the 16 that do, and what each one can't do

16 of the 17 sensors & detectors in our library work with Apple Home: 12 for everything they list, and 4 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Apple Home specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Apple Home's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Sorted by how much we’ve verified — a statement about our research, not a ranking of the products.✓ works · ◐ works, with an exception ·✗ doesn’t work (verified) · ? not checked yet

Work for everything they list

  1. IKEA MYGGBETT Door/Window Sensor

Same basis: IKEA's blanket Matter-systems statement naming Apple; no Apple-specific listing. Thread border router on the Apple side required.

Automations Apple Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Contact state.

  2. IKEA MYGGSPRAY Wireless Motion Sensor

Same basis: IKEA's blanket Matter-systems statement naming Apple; no Apple-specific listing. Thread border router on the Apple side required.

Automations Apple Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Motion detected.

  3. IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE Temperature/Humidity Sensor

IKEA names Apple's smart-home systems in its Matter compatibility statement. For connected readings, you need a Matter controller to add the sensor to your system and a Thread border router to connect it to your home network. This record has no separate Apple Home listing for the sensor.

Automations Apple Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Temperature reading.

  4. Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2

Needs an Apple Home hub with Thread radio (HomePod mini, HomePod 2nd gen, or Apple TV 4K with Thread).

Automations Apple Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Contact state.

  5. SwitchBot Meter Pro

Via Matter bridging through Hub 2, Hub 3, or Hub Mini Matter Enabled — temperature/humidity exposed to Apple Home. Hub 2 bridges max 8 sub-devices (Hub Mini Matter Enabled: 4). Siri Shortcuts also officially listed.

Automations Apple Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Humidity reading and Temperature reading.

  6. Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2

Via Matter over Thread — requires a HomePod, a HomePod mini, the 2021 Apple TV 4K or the Wi-Fi + Ethernet 2022 model as Thread border router and controller. Motion and light sensor both exposed.

Automations Apple Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Motion detected.

  7. Meross Matter Smart Presence Sensor (MS600)

Meross names HomeKit directly and adds a detail worth having: 'On the Matter platform, both presence and light sensors are displayed', so the ambient-light half is exposed and not just the presence half.

Automations Apple Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Motion detected and Presence detected.

  8. Eve Door & Window (3rd generation, Matter)

Full experience: the Eve app's detailed records (when and how long a door/window was open) explicitly require connection through Apple Home on iPhone/iPad.

  9. Philips Hue Motion Sensor (indoor)

Via the Bridge's native HomeKit pairing; motion, light level, and temperature are exposed to Apple Home.

  10. Eve Motion (3rd generation, Matter)

Richest experience: Eve app features (when/how-long motion records, exportable history, brightness data, twilight thresholds) explicitly require connection through Apple Home and the Eve app for iPhone/iPad.

  11. Aqara Presence Sensor FP2

Native HomeKit over WiFi, local — exposed as multiple sensors (each zone plus light sensor). Zone layout must still be configured in the Aqara app first.

  12. Eve Room Indoor Air Quality Monitor

This is a HomeKit accessory and Apple is not one platform among several - it is the platform. Eve's support page names what you need: an iPhone or iPad with the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, plus a HomePod or an Apple TV (4th generation or later) as a home hub if you want automations to run on their own or to check the sensor while you are away. Automations can be built in Apple's Home app (iOS 15.1 and later) or in Eve's own app, and a few jobs stay in Eve's app - exporting your recorded measurements to a spreadsheet, and restarting the calibration. The sensor joins your home over Thread and needs no bridge of Eve's own: the home hub Apple already asks for is the Thread border router too.

Work, with an exception

  1. SwitchBot Contact Sensor

    Partial

Only via Matter bridging through Hub 2, Hub 3, or Hub Mini Matter Enabled, and only door open/closed state is exposed. Hub 2 bridges max 8 sub-devices to Apple Home; Hub Mini Matter Enabled only 4.

  2. SONOFF Zigbee Human Presence Sensor (SNZB-06P)

    Works; presence detected unconfirmed

Only through a Matter bridge. SONOFF says its Zigbee devices reach Apple Home through a Matter bridge such as its ZBBridge-U, sold separately. It does not say what Apple Home shows for this sensor.

  3. SwitchBot Presence Sensor

    Partial

Requires a SwitchBot hub. It arrives bridged rather than native, and bridged SwitchBot devices can surface under Matter Setup > Secondary Devices > Lab Feature (Beta) rather than as an ordinary accessory. An iPhone on iOS 18 or later can add it; a HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV is needed for control away from home and for automations.

  4. SONOFF SenseGuard Presence Core 24GHz Zigbee Presence Sensor (SNZB-06P24)

    Works; presence detected unconfirmed

Only through a Matter bridge. SONOFF names its ZBBridge-U, its iHost, or Cube OS with a SONOFF Zigbee dongle, each sold separately. It does not say what Apple Home shows for this sensor.
