Switches & Dimmers that work with Amazon Alexa: the 19 that do, and what each one can't do

19 of the 23 switches & dimmers in our library work with Amazon Alexa: 13 for everything they list, and 6 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Amazon Alexa specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Amazon Alexa's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Work for everything they list

  1. IKEA BILRESA Remote Control (Dual Button)

Basis is IKEA's blanket statement of compatibility with Matter systems from Amazon, Apple, Google, Homey and Samsung; IKEA publishes no per-ecosystem listing of which button actions (single, double, long press) each platform exposes. IKEA's own manual confirms the variability rather than resolving it: 'functionality depends on the type of product and the system it is connected to', and 'if the product is connected to another smart system that uses the Matter standard, check with the manufacturer for available features.' An on-page customer Q&A reports Alexa surfaces only single-press per button; that report is unverified against any official document.

Automations Amazon Alexa's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Button pressed.

  2. GE Cync Paddle Dimmer Smart Switch (Matter)

Two real paths: Matter (local, no account — but on/off/dim only) or the cloud-linked Cync Alexa skill; the WiFi path is not 'direct', it requires the Cync app and account linking. Schedules, scenes, and advanced dimming config stay in the Cync app either way; legacy non-Matter Cync switches have only the cloud-skill path.

  3. Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Fan Speed Controller, 2nd Gen (D24SF-1BW)

Listed in Leviton's spec sheet works-with row.

  4. Fanimation fanSync AC Motor WiFi Receiver (WFR50)

Fanimation documents the link in its own app guide and instruction sheet — 'Link with Amazon Echo, Google Home and IFTTT', performed inside the fanSync WiFi app under Settings > Connections — and points to Amazon's own help article for the account-linking step. Two limits worth knowing before you buy for voice: the route is an account link through Fanimation's cloud, so it stops when your internet does, and Fanimation publishes no list of what Alexa can actually say to the fan, so speed steps, direction and light behaviour through voice are undocumented.

  5. Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Dimmer, 2nd Gen (D26HD)

Cloud skill via My Leviton account; Leviton states existing cloud integrations are not impacted by the Matter update, so both paths can coexist.

  6. Lutron Caseta Diva Smart Dimmer (DVRF-6L)

Works through the Caséta Smart Hub, which is required and sold separately — this dimmer speaks Lutron's proprietary Clear Connect RF and has no radio of its own. With the hub, Amazon Alexa does the whole job: on, off, dim and scenes by voice. Lutron names Amazon Alexa for the Caséta SYSTEM on its 'Works With' page and publishes no per-model list, so the level rests on that page plus this record's own evidence that the dimmer is part of that system.

  7. Lutron Caséta Wireless In-Wall Switch (PD-5ANS)

A property of the Lutron Smart Bridge rather than of this switch, which carries no standard radio of any kind. 'Amazon Alexa' is named on Lutron's Caséta 'Works With' page, which is a system-level page: it lists what the Caséta system works with, not what each SKU does. Same framing as the Claro and PD-5WS-DV records.

  8. Lutron Caséta Wireless In-Wall Switch (PD-5WS-DV)

A property of the Lutron Smart Bridge rather than of this switch, which carries no standard radio of any kind. 'Amazon Alexa' is named on Lutron's Caséta 'Works With' page, which is a system-level page: it lists what the Caséta system works with, not what each SKU does. Same framing as the Claro switch record.

  9. Lutron Caséta Smart Fan Speed Control Switch (PD-FSQN)

Requires a Lutron Smart Hub; the switch itself has no standard radio.

  10. Lutron Claro Smart Switch for Caséta (DVRF-5NS)

Requires a Lutron Smart Hub; the switch carries no standard radio.

  11. TP-Link Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Dimmer Switch KS225 (Matter)

Works with Alexa per the official datasheet; Matter is an alternative path. The native path rides the TP-Link cloud account link.

  12. TP-Link Tapo S505 Smart Wi-Fi Light Switch

Named in TP-Link's compatibility list as 'Alexa' and as a commissioning route - the Alexa app is one of the Matter-compatible apps TP-Link names for setup. Same Matter mechanism as the other three cells.

Automations Amazon Alexa documents controlling this over Matter and never says the value reaches its automations, so we do not claim it does.

  13. SONOFF iFan04-L Wi-Fi Ceiling Fan and Light Controller

SONOFF states it plainly on the product page — 'Works natively with Amazon Alexa and Google Home for hands-free voice control' — and repeats it in the product summary. Read the word 'natively' as SONOFF's marketing rather than as an architecture claim: the route is eWeLink account linking through SONOFF's cloud, so it depends on your internet and on eWeLink's service being up. SONOFF publishes no list of what Alexa can actually address, so whether fan speed steps and the light are separately controllable by voice is undocumented.

Work, with an exception

  1. Philips Hue Smart Button

    Works; button pressed unconfirmed

This button reaches Alexa through a Philips Hue bridge: Hue connects the bridge to Alexa through the Hue skill in the Alexa app, and the button comes along with it. Hue doesn't say whether Alexa can use a button press to start a routine, so that is unconfirmed there.

  2. Inovelli Blue Series Smart Fan/Light Canopy Module (VZM36)

    Partial

Only via an Amazon Echo model containing a built-in Zigbee radio, which acts as the hub. Inovelli lists 'Amazon Echo (requires compatible version)' but publishes no dedicated Alexa setup article, so feature depth is undocumented.

  3. Inovelli Blue Series 2-1 Smart Switch (VZM31-SN)

    Partial

Only via Amazon Echo models that contain a built-in Zigbee radio; Inovelli's chart says 'yes, but only certain hubs.' Feature depth on Echo is not documented.

  4. Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Switch, 15A (D315S)

    Partial

Leviton documents two ways in, and the one recorded here is the one that costs you nothing extra. Its own instruction sheet says you can 'set up your device with My Leviton and link your Amazon account, or you can use Matter to set it up directly in the Amazon Alexa app if you have a compatible Matter-enabled Amazon device'. The account-linked route needs only the free app, which is why it is the one recorded; the Matter route keeps the traffic on your own network, but only if you already own an Echo that speaks Matter, and buying one to get there is a real cost rather than a detail. This is still recorded as partial, and the reason has changed — worth knowing if you read this page before. It is no longer that we could not tell how the switch reaches Alexa; Leviton now says, in its own instructions. What is missing is the other half of the evidence this catalogue wants before calling a platform claim settled: a statement from Amazon's own side that this specific model works, and Amazon publishes no product list we are able to read.

  5. TP-Link Kasa Smart Ceiling Fan Control and Dimmer Switch (KS240)

Works; three functions unconfirmed (see the note)

TP-Link connects this switch to Alexa through the Kasa skill, which you turn on in the Alexa app and sign in to with your TP-Link account. TP-Link doesn't say which controls Alexa gets, so on/off, dimming and fan speed are unconfirmed there.

  6. Hubbell iDevices Z-Wave Enabled Radio Frequency (RF) Decorator Fan Control (IDEVZ07W)

    Partial

Named by Hubbell on its own product page — 'Conveniently operated through other smart home integrations with Alexa, Alarm.com, and the Google Assistant' — with the mechanism stated in the specification as 'Compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home via Hub'. Recorded 'partial' rather than 'full' for a specific and important reason: the support is not this switch's, it is inherited from whatever Z-Wave hub you buy. Hubbell names no hub, publishes no command set, and cannot promise behaviour it does not control — two households running this switch on different controllers will get different Alexa experiences, and one running it on a hub with no Alexa bridge will get none at all. Transport is recorded cloud because that is what a hub-to-Alexa link ordinarily is, though the specific path depends on the hub.

If your home isn’t only Amazon Alexa

Of the 13 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.

  • Apple Home: 11 of 13 · 2 without full recorded support
  • Google Home: 11 of 13 · 2 without full recorded support
