Maintenance reality^[6]

• Works without the internet: Inconclusive — we read the vendor's own material and it does not answer this either way. It does not mean the product fails without the internet.
• Neutral wire connection required (datasheet wording). Single-pole only: 'Not compatible with 3-way (multi-location) wiring.' Load: 300 W incandescent, 150 W LED, leading-edge/TRIAC dimming. 2.4 GHz WiFi only; Bluetooth is setup-only. Kasa app remote control runs through a TP-Link cloud account; the datasheet states LAN control via the Kasa app or Matter controllers keeps working when the household is offline. Matter setup code ships in the box and is printed on the switch under the wallplate. Requires a 2-inch-deep wall box.
• Security updates: TP-Link (Kasa) states its security-update commitment for this model as a period rather than a date: ends 3 years after the product's end-of-life date — and TP-Link's published end-of-life list covers Home and Business Networking only, so no end-of-life date exists for this smart-home model and no clock has started (UK-declared — the maker's legal commitment is filed for the United Kingdom). That is a floor measured from a starting point the manufacturer sets — a launch or a purchase — rather than a fixed end date, so it cannot be placed on a calendar here. We record the commitment as the manufacturer states it, in our words, rather than converting it into a date it did not give. This is a published commitment, not a gap in our research.^[10]

The catch

Single-pole only with no 3-way option, and the 150 W LED ceiling is low for larger fixtures. Leading-edge TRIAC dimming does not suit every LED bulb; TP-Link itself suggests checking the bulb's supported dimming type. One thing changed recently and it is easy to miss: TP-Link ended IFTTT support for Kasa products on 1 August 2026, and the KS225 is named on the affected list — if IFTTT is how you planned to connect this switch to something outside TP-Link's own apps, that path is closed, and Matter or Home Assistant is the way now.

Who it's for

A fit for single-pole locations in homes that want one dimmer visible to Alexa, Google, SmartThings, Apple Home (via Matter), and Home Assistant without a hub, on a 2.4 GHz network with a neutral wire in the box.
