Compatibility
| Ecosystem | Support | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Alexa | Works | Direct WiFi or Matter |
| Google Home | Works | Direct WiFi or Matter |
| Apple Home | Works | Matter only, and only on the 2025+ SKUs — legacy Cync switches have no Apple Home path |
| SmartThings | Works | Via Matter on the 2025+ SKUs |
| Home Assistant | Works | Local via HA's Matter integration; an official cloud Cync integration also exists (HA 2025.10+, one app session at a time) |
Protocols: WIFI · BLUETOOTH · MATTER
Subscription reality
✓ Works without a subscription: Yes.
No paid tier anywhere in the Cync ecosystem; app scheduling/scenes/remote are free
Maintenance reality
- Cloud dependence: No — core function survives without the vendor's cloud
- Matter commissioning gives local control; the Cync app (cloud) is still needed for firmware updates and advanced dimming config. 2.4 GHz WiFi only. In-wall install: neutral + ground required; one switch handles single-pole/3-way/4-way via traveler wire.
The catch
Neutral wire required — the Matter refresh dropped Cync's no-neutral signature, so pre-1980s wiring is out; the body is bulky in the box and WiFi is 2.4 GHz only.
Who it's for
Anyone standardizing on Matter who wants an affordable in-wall dimmer recognized by all five ecosystems — and whose switch box has a neutral wire.
