Sensors & Detectors that work with Google Home: the 14 that do, and what each one can't do

14 of the 17 sensors & detectors in our library work with Google Home: 10 for everything they list, and 4 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Google Home specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Google Home's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Sorted by how much we’ve verified — a statement about our research, not a ranking of the products.✓ works · ◐ works, with an exception ·✗ doesn’t work (verified) · ? not checked yet

Work for everything they list

  1. IKEA MYGGBETT Door/Window Sensor

Same basis: IKEA's blanket Matter-systems statement naming Google; no Google-specific listing. Thread border router on the Google side required.

Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Contact state.

  2. IKEA MYGGSPRAY Wireless Motion Sensor

Same basis: IKEA's blanket Matter-systems statement naming Google; no Google-specific listing. Thread border router on the Google side required.

Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Motion detected.

  3. IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE Temperature/Humidity Sensor

IKEA names Google's smart-home systems in its Matter compatibility statement. For connected readings, you need a Matter controller to add the sensor to your system and a Thread border router to connect it to your home network. This record has no separate Google Home listing for the sensor.

Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Temperature reading.

  4. Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2

Works via Matter over Thread: Google's Matter list marks contact sensors as available by Google Assistant, in the Google Home app and on a Smart Display. Needs a Google Thread border router (e.g., Nest Hub 2nd gen, Nest Hub Max, Nest Wifi Pro).

Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Contact state.

  5. SwitchBot Meter Pro

Requires a SwitchBot hub; Google Home is on the official third-party services list.

  6. Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2

Works via Matter over Thread: Google's Matter list marks occupancy sensors and light sensors as available by Google Assistant, in the Google Home app and on a Smart Display. Requires a Google Thread border router (e.g., Nest Hub 2nd gen) as the controller.

Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Motion detected.

  7. Meross Matter Smart Presence Sensor (MS600)

Named by Meross in its own multi-platform sentence, reached through Matter. As with Alexa, what the platform actually sees is not itemised by the vendor.

Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Motion detected and Presence detected.

  8. Eve Door & Window (3rd generation, Matter)

Officially badged 'Works with Google Home', and Google's Matter list marks contact sensors as available by Google Assistant, in the Google Home app and on a Smart Display. Requires Google's Matter controller. No Eve-app history features outside Apple Home.

Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Contact state.

  9. Philips Hue Motion Sensor (indoor)

Through the Hue Bridge; Signify lists Google Assistant among the voice assistants for this sensor, with the Bridge stated as required. The mechanism is not documented on the cited page, so no cloud-versus-local claim is made here.

  10. Eve Motion (3rd generation, Matter)

Officially badged 'Works with Google Home', and Google's Matter list marks occupancy sensors as available by Google Assistant, in the Google Home app and on a Smart Display. Requires Google's Matter controller. No Eve-app history/threshold features outside Apple Home.

Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Motion detected.

Work, with an exception

  1. SwitchBot Contact Sensor

    Partial

Requires a SwitchBot hub. Open/close works; SwitchBot states Google Home does not support the light-level or motion features.

  2. SONOFF Zigbee Human Presence Sensor (SNZB-06P)

    Works; presence detected unconfirmed

This sensor reaches Google Home through a SONOFF Zigbee bridge, linked to Google Home with your eWeLink account. SONOFF doesn't say whether Google Home can use presence detection, so it is unconfirmed there.

  3. SwitchBot Presence Sensor

    Partial

Requires a hub, and SwitchBot documents a hard platform limit: Google Home does not allow the sensor to be used as an automation CONDITION at all. It reports state and nothing more — which for a presence sensor removes most of the reason to buy one.

  4. Aqara Presence Sensor FP2

    Partial

Officially supported (cloud-linked via Aqara). Multi-zone presence exposed; light sensor not shown as supported for Google Home.

If your home isn’t only Google Home

Of the 10 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.

  • Apple Home: 10 of 10
  • Amazon Alexa: 9 of 10 · 1 without full recorded support
  • SmartThings: 8 of 10 · 2 without full recorded support
  • Home Assistant: 5 of 10 · 5 without full recorded support
