Switches & Dimmers that work with Apple Home: the 16 that do, and what each one can't do

16 of the 23 switches & dimmers in our library work with Apple Home: 14 for everything they list, and 2 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Apple Home specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Apple Home's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Work for everything they list

  1. IKEA BILRESA Remote Control (Dual Button)

IKEA's blanket Matter-systems statement naming Apple; button-action depth per platform is not documented by IKEA, whose manual sends you to the other vendor for it ('check with the manufacturer for available features'). Thread border router on the Apple side required.

Automations Apple Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Button pressed.

  2. GE Cync Paddle Dimmer Smart Switch (Matter)

Matter only, and only on the 2025+ SKUs — legacy Cync switches have no Apple Home path

Automations Apple Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Brightness and On/off.

  3. Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Fan Speed Controller, 2nd Gen (D24SF-1BW)

HomeKit is listed on the spec sheet, but taking Leviton's Matter firmware update REMOVES the existing HomeKit connection and forces re-pairing via a Matter code. Choosing Matter and keeping HomeKit are not both available.

  4. Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Switch, 15A (D315S)

Coded differently from Alexa/Google deliberately, and the asymmetry is reasoned rather than arbitrary: Apple Home speaks only HomeKit or Matter, and Leviton documents NO native-HomeKit path for this model — unlike the 2nd-Gen line, which advertised HomeKit prominently. The instruction sheet carries no HomeKit branding at all and its single controller step is 'Connect to a Matter controller (optional)', while the product page says 'Matter ready out of the box'. Matter is therefore the only remaining path, not a guess. Full because on/off is this device's entire function and its certified Matter device type is On/Off Light (0x0100). Platform requirement, not a D315S spec: Leviton states that controlling Matter accessories from the Apple Home app and Siri 'requires an Apple Home hub such as a HomePod or Apple TV running the latest software', and that the Matter pairing code lives in the My Leviton app under Device Settings. Apple says an iPhone on iOS 18 or later can add and control Matter accessories without a home hub, though it recommends one.

Automations Apple Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use On/off.

  5. Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Dimmer, 2nd Gen (D26HD)

Native HomeKit on stock firmware. Installing the Matter firmware removes the existing HomeKit connection; the dimmer must be re-added to Apple Home with its Matter pairing code from the My Leviton app.

  6. Lutron Caseta Diva Smart Dimmer (DVRF-6L)

Apple Home support is a function of the Caseta Smart Hub; no hub, no Home app or Siri.

  7. Lutron Caséta Wireless In-Wall Switch (PD-5ANS)

'Apple Home' is named on Lutron's 'Works With' page, alongside 'Apple Watch' as a separate entry. The Apple Home technology sits in the Lutron hub, not in the switch.

  8. Lutron Caséta Wireless In-Wall Switch (PD-5WS-DV)

'Apple Home' is named on Lutron's 'Works With' page, alongside 'Apple Watch' as a separate entry. The Apple Home technology sits in the Lutron hub, not in the switch - the same reading the Claro record records.

  9. Lutron Caséta Smart Fan Speed Control Switch (PD-FSQN)

Lutron states the Smart Hub contains Apple Home technology — the hub provides it, not the switch.

  10. Lutron Claro Smart Switch for Caséta (DVRF-5NS)

Lutron states the Smart Hub contains Apple Home technology — the hub provides it, not the switch.

  11. TP-Link Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Dimmer Switch KS225 (Matter)

No native HomeKit; Apple Home and Siri work only through Matter; an iPhone on iOS 18 or later can add and control it over Matter without a home hub, and a HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV is still needed to control it away from home, run automations and share control. TP-Link names the Apple Home app explicitly.

Automations Apple Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Brightness and On/off.

  12. TP-Link Kasa Smart Ceiling Fan Control and Dimmer Switch (KS240)

A real Apple Home answer, and it is worth saying so explicitly because two other products verified this same week turned out to offer only Siri Shortcuts dressed up as Apple support. TP-Link's own words describe the Home app rather than a voice phrase: 'Easily integrate your KS240 with Apple Home to conveniently manage your connected fans and lights using the Apple Home App or with voice commands by asking Siri.' A device you manage in the Apple Home App is a device in Apple Home — a tile, a room, something automations can address and the household can share. TP-Link also uses Apple's current name for the platform rather than the retired 'HomeKit' branding. One thing NOT published: TP-Link does not say whether the route is HomeKit or Matter, so the mechanism is recorded as native and local on the strength of the Home-app statement rather than a stated protocol. Matter is named nowhere on the page.

  13. TP-Link Tapo S505 Smart Wi-Fi Light Switch

'Apple Home' is named in TP-Link's compatibility list, and the mechanism is stated rather than implied: the switch is Matter-certified and TP-Link tells buyers to commission it 'by scanning the included code with any Matter-compatible app, such as the Alexa app, Google Home app, and Apple Home app'. Transport is recorded local because a Matter-over-Wi-Fi device is controlled on the local network by the ecosystem's own controller, not through a TP-Link cloud. TP-Link separately names 'Apple Siri' among the voice assistants.

Automations Apple Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use On/off.

  14. Aqara Wireless Mini Switch

The only ecosystem Aqara claims for this switch, and it claims it clearly: the product page carries a single 'Works with Apple HomeKit' badge and states 'Aqara Hub is required to enable this product to work with HomeKit technology.' The Aqara hub bridges the Zigbee button into HomeKit; iOS 10.3 or later. Note the basis — this rests on Aqara's word alone, with no Apple document confirming what a Home app automation can do with the button's individual press actions.

Work, with an exception

  1. Philips Hue Smart Button

Works per the maker; details unconfirmed

Signify lists Apple Home among the systems this button works with, but does not say what the button can do there. The same list appears on every Hue product page, so treat it as a statement about the Hue system.

  2. Inovelli White Series Smart Fan/Light Canopy Module (VTM36)

    Works, except fan mode

Works for the light; fan speed is the exception, and the limit is on Apple's side. Inovelli lists Apple among the platforms the module works with ('Requires a compatible device', meaning a HomePod or Apple TV acting as home hub and Thread border router), and its product page names Apple Home among the platforms that support separate fan-speed and dimming control. Apple's own list of the Matter accessories the Home app supports names lights and switches but leaves fans out, and the module is certified as a fan. Apple's list is the word on what the Home app supports, so fan speed is the exception here until Apple names fans.

If your home isn’t only Apple Home

Of the 14 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.
