Switches & Dimmers that work with Google Home: the 18 that do, and what each one can't do

18 of the 23 switches & dimmers in our library work with Google Home: 12 for everything they list, and 6 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Google Home specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Google Home's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Sorted by how much we’ve verified — a statement about our research, not a ranking of the products.✓ works · ◐ works, with an exception ·✗ doesn’t work (verified) · ? not checked yet

Work for everything they list

  1. GE Cync Paddle Dimmer Smart Switch (Matter)

Two real paths: Matter (local, on/off/dim only) or Cync-account cloud linking in Google Home — GE's guide requires signing into the Cync account, so the WiFi path is cloud-linked, not direct. No deeper Google-specific integration exists for the switches; app features stay in the Cync app.

  2. Inovelli White Series Smart Fan/Light Canopy Module (VTM36)

Inovelli lists Google among the platforms the module works with, with the note 'Requires a compatible device', meaning a Google speaker or display that acts as a Thread border router and Matter controller. Inovelli's sentence naming the platforms that support separate fan-speed and dimming control does not name Google, so how far Google goes with those settings is not published by Inovelli.

Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Brightness, Fan mode and On/off.

  3. Fanimation fanSync AC Motor WiFi Receiver (WFR50)

The same sentence and the same Connections menu name Google Home alongside Amazon Echo, with Fanimation linking to Google's own account-linking help page. Same two limits as the Alexa cell: cloud-routed, and no published command list.

  4. Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Dimmer, 2nd Gen (D26HD)

Cloud integration via My Leviton account; Matter is an alternative path.

  5. Lutron Caseta Diva Smart Dimmer (DVRF-6L)

Works through the Caséta Smart Hub, which is required and sold separately — this dimmer speaks Lutron's proprietary Clear Connect RF and has no radio of its own. With the hub, Google Home does the whole job: on, off, dim and scenes by voice. Google's own list of devices that Google Home routines can control names this dimmer by model, for on, off and dimming.

  6. Lutron Caséta Wireless In-Wall Switch (PD-5ANS)

Named on the same Lutron 'Works With' page as 'Google Assistant', which is the voice service rather than the Google Home app. Reached through the Smart Bridge; the switch itself is Clear Connect only.

  7. Lutron Caséta Wireless In-Wall Switch (PD-5WS-DV)

Named on the same Lutron 'Works With' page as 'Google Assistant', which is the voice service rather than the Google Home app. Reached through the Smart Bridge; the switch itself is Clear Connect only.

  8. Lutron Caséta Smart Fan Speed Control Switch (PD-FSQN)

Requires a Lutron Smart Hub; the switch itself has no standard radio.

  9. Lutron Claro Smart Switch for Caséta (DVRF-5NS)

Requires a Lutron Smart Hub; the switch carries no standard radio.

  10. TP-Link Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Dimmer Switch KS225 (Matter)

Works with Google Home per the official datasheet; Matter is an alternative path.

  11. TP-Link Tapo S505 Smart Wi-Fi Light Switch

TP-Link writes 'Google Assistant' in its compatibility list, which is the voice service, while naming the 'Google Home app' as the commissioning route - the app rather than the assistant. Both belong to the same Matter path; the wording is TP-Link's own inconsistency and does not change the mechanism.

Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use On/off.

  12. SONOFF iFan04-L Wi-Fi Ceiling Fan and Light Controller

Named in the same sentence as Alexa and carrying the same qualification: cloud-routed through eWeLink, with no published command list. Google Home is also named a second time in SONOFF's Matter-bridge blurb, but that is the eWeLink CUBE route described in the Apple cell, not a separate integration.

Work, with an exception

  1. IKEA BILRESA Remote Control (Dual Button)

    Works, except button pressed

IKEA names Google among the Matter systems this remote works with, and it can be added to Google Home over Matter, which needs a Thread border router. The button press is the part Google leaves out: Google's list of the Matter device types Google Home supports has no entry for this kind of button, and Google says a Matter switch added to Google Home cannot be set up to control anything there. Pairing it directly with IKEA lights still works without Google.

  2. Philips Hue Smart Button

    Works; button pressed unconfirmed

This button reaches Google Home through a Philips Hue bridge, which you link to Google Home with your Hue account through Works with Google. Hue doesn't say whether Google Home can use a button press, so that is unconfirmed there.

  3. Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Fan Speed Controller, 2nd Gen (D24SF-1BW)

Works; on/off and fan mode unconfirmed

Leviton connects this controller to Google Home when you link your My Leviton account in the Google Home app, and its product sheet says you can control connected fans with Hey Google or from the Google Home app. Leviton doesn't say which controls Google Home gets, so on/off and fan mode are unconfirmed there. For Alexa, the same sheet names the four fan speeds.

  4. Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Switch, 15A (D315S)

    Partial

The same two routes as Alexa, and it stops at partial for the same reason. Leviton's instruction sheet: 'you can set up your device with My Leviton and link your Google account, or you can use Matter to set it up directly in the Google Home app if you have a compatible Matter-enabled Google device.' The account-linked route is the one recorded, because it needs no hardware you do not already have; the Matter route needs a Google speaker or display that speaks Matter. Google publishes no product directory we can check for this model, so as with Alexa the maker's half of the evidence is now documented and the platform's half still is not.

  5. TP-Link Kasa Smart Ceiling Fan Control and Dimmer Switch (KS240)

Works; three functions unconfirmed (see the note)

TP-Link connects this switch to Google Home when you link your TP-Link account through Works with Google Home in the Google Home app. TP-Link doesn't say which controls Google gets, so on/off, dimming and fan speed are unconfirmed there.

  6. Hubbell iDevices Z-Wave Enabled Radio Frequency (RF) Decorator Fan Control (IDEVZ07W)

    Partial

Named by Hubbell as 'the Google Assistant', with the same 'via Hub' qualification as Alexa. Rated 'partial' for the identical reason and it is worth stating rather than cross-referencing: this is a capability of the Z-Wave controller you choose, not of the switch. Hubbell publishes no command set and names no specific hub, so what Google can actually do with the fan — set a speed, or only switch it — is determined downstream of this product entirely.

If your home isn’t only Google Home

Of the 12 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.

  • Apple Home: 9 of 12 · 3 without full recorded support
  • Amazon Alexa: 11 of 12 · 1 without full recorded support
  • SmartThings: 10 of 12 · 2 without full recorded support
  • Home Assistant: 9 of 12 · 3 without full recorded support
