Plugs & Outlets that work with Amazon Alexa: the 18 that do, and what each one can't do
18 of the 20 plugs & outlets in our library work with Amazon Alexa: 9 for everything they list, and 9 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Amazon Alexa specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Amazon Alexa's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Work for everything they list
TP-Link Tapo P125M Mini Smart Wi-Fi Plug (Matter)
Matter path requires a Matter-capable Echo as controller (TP-Link FAQ 3564); the native Tapo-app-plus-Alexa path is also officially supported.
Automations Amazon Alexa documents controlling this over Matter and never says the value reaches its automations, so we do not claim it does.
Tapo Smart Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug, Matter (P400M)
Matter is the documented mechanism, not an inference: the datasheet's setup section says to scan the Matter QR code in 'your preferred smart home app' and names Alexa, and the page carries a 'works with alexa' badge. On/off is this device's entire function, so full. The requirement to budget for: TP-Link states 'A Matter-supported controller and smart home app of the same ecosystem are required' — a Matter-capable Echo, not just the Alexa app on a phone. Each outlet appears separately and can be named.
Automations Amazon Alexa lists the capabilities its automations can use over Matter, and Scene is not on it. Nothing it publishes says an automation can reach the other capability either.
GE Cync Outdoor Smart Plug, Matter (CPLGOD2BLMS)
GE names Amazon Alexa directly and says the route is Matter. On and off is the whole job this plug does, so nothing is lost in translation. What to budget for: Matter needs a Matter-capable Echo in the house, not just the Alexa app on a phone, and GE marks those platform devices sold separately on its own page.
Automations Amazon Alexa lists the capabilities its automations can use over Matter, and Scene is not on it. Nothing it publishes says an automation can reach the other capability either.
Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Tamper-Resistant Outlet, 2nd Gen (D215R)
First-party and documented with a mechanism, not just a badge: Leviton's product-data sheet describes controlling 'connected lighting and loads from compatible Alexa built-in devices such as an Amazon Echo, Echo Show, the Alexa app, or even the Decora Smart Voice Dimmer'. The route is the My Leviton cloud link, so voice and remote control depend on Leviton's service and your internet connection — unlike the HomeKit path, which is local.
Meross Smart Wi-Fi Surge Protector Power Strip (MSS425FHK)
Named directly by Meross in its voice-control line and reached by account linking through Meross's cloud, with each outlet addressable separately by voice. Being cloud-routed it stops working when your internet does — unlike the Apple Home path on the same device, which is the sharpest practical difference between the two on this product.
Legrand radiant Smart 15A Receptacle with Wi-Fi, Matter-Enabled, White (WWMRR15WH)
Matter is the whole mechanism and Legrand names Alexa directly: 'Device comes with Matter built-in, allowing for greater interoperability and compatibility with the latest smart home assistants and platforms – including Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings', with the specification table's Works With row repeating 'Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Matter, Samsung SmartThings'. The cost is the controller: you need a Matter-capable Echo, not just the Alexa app, and Legrand states the requirement without hedging. The upside is that commissioning is a QR scan and no Legrand app or account is involved. Only the top outlet appears as a controllable thing — the always-on half is invisible to every platform.
Automations Amazon Alexa documents controlling this over Matter and never says the value reaches its automations, so we do not claim it does.
Meross Smart Outdoor Plug (MSS620BHK)
Works through Meross's cloud-to-cloud skill, with each of the two sockets addressable by voice separately. Being cloud-routed, it stops working when your internet does — unlike the Apple Home path.
Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug (EP40)
TP-Link names Alexa on this model's own page, reached by linking your Kasa account to the Kasa skill. On and off is the whole job this plug does, so there is nothing missing from the voice control. Two limits worth knowing: each outlet shows up separately so you can name them, and the connection runs between TP-Link's service and Amazon's rather than across your own network, so voice control stops during an internet outage even though the plug itself keeps its schedule.
Amazon Smart Plug
The plug is set up and controlled through Alexa. Amazon says all you need is an Alexa device such as an Echo, Fire TV or Fire tablet, or just the Alexa app on your phone.
Work, with an exception
IKEA GRILLPLATS Smart Plug
Works, except energy monitoring
Alexa turns the plug on and off through Matter, and IKEA names Amazon among the systems it works with. Alexa's Matter support has no place for energy readings, so energy monitoring stays in the IKEA Home smart app. You need a Thread border router on the Alexa side.
THIRDREALITY Smart Plug Gen2 (Power Metering)
Partial
🔴 THE FEATURE IN THE PRODUCT'S NAME IS NOT AVAILABLE ON EVERY HUB THE SAME PAGE CALLS COMPATIBLE. Alexa hosting works and is easy — pair to an Echo with a built-in Zigbee hub and 'just plug the Smart Plug in the wall outlet and say "Alexa, discover my devices"'. But the vendor scopes the energy monitoring separately: 'This function supported by Home Assistant, SmartThings, Hubitat and THIRDREALITY smart hub Gen2' — Echo devices are not in that list. So an Alexa-hosted buyer gets a switch, not a power meter. Recorded partial for exactly that reason.
Tapo Smart Wi-Fi In-Wall Outlet, Matter, Energy Monitoring (P210M)
Partial
Alexa switches each outlet on and off through Matter, and that is all Amazon's own list gives a plug: it has no energy or power measurement on it. Energy monitoring is in this outlet's name, so Alexa does only part of what it is sold for. TP-Link's firmware note of 28 August 2026 says the readings can now travel over Matter, and it names only SmartThings and Home Assistant as apps where it has verified them. Matter is the documented route: the quick start guide's Matter section says 'You can integrate your Tapo Matter device into your preferred ecosystem, such as Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, and more', and the product page lists Alexa in its compatibility line. You need a Matter-capable Echo — TP-Link's own wording is 'Requires a hub of your chosen third-party platform'.
Eve Energy (4th generation, Matter)
Works, except energy monitoring
On/off, scenes, automations, and remote access work via Matter, but energy monitoring does not — and that is now confirmed from Amazon's side rather than only Eve's. Amazon's own list of the Matter clusters Alexa supports (last updated 2026-04-08) carries no electrical power measurement and no electrical energy measurement cluster at all, and maps a plug to on/off control only. The missing energy data is a platform gap, not a device limitation. Eve-app extras (schedules, status LED, child lock) are unreachable from an Alexa-only setup.
Enbrighten In-Wall Z-Wave Tamper-Resistant Smart Outlet (58449)
Partial
Voice works, but never directly: no Echo speaks Z-Wave, so Alexa reaches this outlet only through whichever hub you paired it to, and it is that hub's Alexa connection doing the work. Jasco's own sentence keeps the two halves together: Alexa and Google Assistant compatible, 'requires a Z-Wave certified hub'. Jasco's Z-Wave questions page names the hubs it means for Alexa as Wink, Iris and SmartThings. Recorded as partial because Jasco publishes no Alexa setup guide and no list of commands, so what you can say, and whether the always-on half ever shows up, is a question about your hub rather than about this product.
Govee Smart Plug Outlet Extender with Night Light (H5089)
Works; color unconfirmed
Govee says the outlet extender supports voice control of its two sockets and its night light from Alexa, so switching them on and off works. Govee does not say whether Alexa can change the night light's color, so color is unconfirmed, and it does not say how the extender connects to Alexa.
Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Power Strip, 6 Outlets (HS300)
Works; energy monitoring unconfirmed
TP-Link names Alexa for this strip on both its legacy and current product pages, and switching the outlets by voice works through Alexa, each of the six outlets as its own device. Energy monitoring is unconfirmed on Alexa: TP-Link shows each outlet's energy use in the Kasa app and does not say whether Alexa can show it. The connection is the Kasa skill over TP-Link's cloud, with no Matter and no local Alexa path, so voice and remote control depend on TP-Link's service and your internet connection.
Wyze Plug Outdoor (SVB-WLPPO1)
Works; energy monitoring unconfirmed
The one platform Wyze names for this model: its integrations page lists the Wyze Plug Outdoor under Alexa only, and switching it on and off works through the Wyze skill in the Alexa app. Energy monitoring is unconfirmed on Alexa: Wyze keeps energy history in its own app and does not say whether Alexa can show it. Control runs through Wyze's cloud, so it depends on Wyze's service and your internet connection; there is no local route and no Matter on this model.
Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Plug Slim with Energy Monitoring (EP25)
Works; energy monitoring unconfirmed
TP-Link says you can turn this plug on and off with your voice through Alexa. It does not say how the plug connects to Alexa or whether Alexa shows the plug's energy use, so energy monitoring is unconfirmed there. TP-Link describes energy monitoring in its own Kasa Smart app.
If your home isn’t only Amazon Alexa
Of the 9 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.
