⚠ Similar names, different products: Jasco sells this in-wall tamper-resistant smart outlet in two radios under names that differ by one word: this Z-Wave model and an 'Enbrighten Zigbee In-Wall Tamper-Resistant Smart Outlet'. They are not interchangeable. The Z-Wave one needs a Z-Wave hub and the Zigbee one needs a Zigbee hub, so a home with the wrong radio ends up with a receptacle it cannot pair. Jasco also still lists older Honeywell- and Jasco-branded versions of the same device; the item number that reaches this product today is 58449.

Jasco names no plan, paid tier or recurring charge for this outlet anywhere on its product page, and there is no Jasco app or cloud in the picture to attach one to; the outlet answers to whatever hub you pair it with. The limit this whole category shares: any subscription you end up paying is the hub maker's, not Jasco's, and several of the hubs Jasco names (Ring Alarm, ADT, Vivint) sell monitoring plans of their own.

Maintenance reality^[1][2]

• Works without the internet: Yes — the core function runs on the device or your home network. A vendor cloud may still be involved in remote access.^[9]
• This replaces a wall receptacle; it is not a plug-in adapter. Jasco says in-wall installation with hardwired connections, including a neutral wire, is required. Only one of the two outlets is smart. The other is always on, by design, so the lamp or appliance you want controlled has to be plugged into the correct half. Both outlets are tamper resistant, which Jasco scopes to stopping objects being pushed into a single slot. The radio is Z-Wave 700 series, which Jasco says is backward compatible with all Z-Wave generations, takes firmware updates over the air, uses S2 security with 128-bit encryption, and supports SmartStart QR-code pairing. It fits rocker-style wallplates (not included); white and light almond faceplates come in the box. Recorded as working locally on Home Assistant's own documentation, which says Jasco Z-Wave devices work locally with instant status updates, with one caveat: that describes the outlet and its hub. Whether you can reach it from outside the house when the internet is down depends on the hub you chose, not on this device.
• Security updates: Enbrighten publishes no security-update support date for this model. That is a gap in what the manufacturer has published, not evidence either way — some makers declare a support period and some say nothing at all.^[1][11][13]

The catch

Only one of the two outlets is smart. The other is permanently live, by design, so the lamp or appliance you want to control has to go in the right half, and nothing on the faceplate tells a guest which is which. This is also a hub product with no fallback: there is no Jasco app, no Jasco cloud and no Wi-Fi, so without a Z-Wave hub already in the house it is an expensive ordinary receptacle. Everything you will experience, the app, whether voice works, what automations can do, belongs to that hub rather than to Jasco. Installation is in-wall and hardwired with a neutral required, and the wallplate is not in the box. The upside is the part hub-dependence usually costs you: Z-Wave 700 with strong encryption and QR-code pairing, running on your home network, with Home Assistant naming Jasco as an official partner for its Z-Wave products.

Who it's for

A home that already runs a Z-Wave hub (SmartThings, Home Assistant with a Z-Wave stick, Hubitat, HomeSeer, a Ring Alarm base) and wants a controlled receptacle rather than a plug-in adapter sticking out of the wall, with tamper-resistant slots for a room with children or pets. It suits lamps and small appliances on the switched half, and anyone who specifically wants control that does not pass through a manufacturer's cloud. Look elsewhere if there is no Z-Wave hub in the house and no plan to add one, if the household is Apple Home, if both outlets need to be controllable, if the box has no neutral wire, or if you are not comfortable replacing a receptacle with the breaker off.
