Smart Locks that work with Amazon Alexa: the 15 that do, and what each one can't do

15 of the 15 smart locks in our library work with Amazon Alexa: 12 for everything they list, and 3 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Amazon Alexa specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Amazon Alexa's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Work for everything they list

  1. Aqara Smart Lock U200

Through Matter you get lock, unlock and status. Fingerprint, tap-to-unlock, passcode management and Aqara settings such as auto-lock live in the Aqara Home app. The lock is Thread-only, so you need an Echo or eero that acts as a Thread border router; an older Echo alone will not connect it.

Automations Amazon Alexa's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Lock state.

  2. August WiFi Smart Lock (4th gen)

Cloud-to-cloud via the August Alexa skill using the lock's built-in WiFi — lock and status by voice anytime, but voice UNLOCK requires a 4–12 digit PIN configured during skill account linking; no PIN set, no voice unlock.

  3. ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint (Matter over Thread)

ULTRALOQ lists this variant as working with 'Matter-compatible platforms including Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings'. Everything runs over Matter-over-Thread, so the Echo in question must be a Thread border router — a plain Echo Dot gets you nothing. Alexa's standard voice-unlock code gate applies.

Automations Amazon Alexa's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Lock state.

  4. Aqara Smart Lock U400

Aqara says the U400 'works by design with Apple Home, Home Assistant, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and other ecosystems' over Matter over Thread, and its manual lists Amazon Alexa among the platforms it binds to. You need an Alexa device that is both a Matter controller and a Thread border router, because Aqara requires 'a Thread-enabled Matter controller from each ecosystem'. Through Matter you get locking and unlocking. Aqara says features such as Night Latch mode and Auto-Lock settings need the Aqara Home app and are not available if you connect the lock straight to another platform.

Automations Amazon Alexa documents controlling this over Matter and never says the value reaches its automations, so we do not claim it does.

  5. SwitchBot Lock Ultra Vision Pro Combo

Via the SwitchBot Smart skill, which needs a SwitchBot hub online — included here. Voice unlock requires a PIN code set in the Alexa app.

  6. Kwikset Halo Select Plus Touchscreen Smart Lock

Kwikset states 'Works with Amazon Alexa, Apple Home and Google Home. Control your lock with your voice, create helpful automations that secure your home and manage all your smart devices in one app.' The lock reaches Alexa over Matter, and on this lock Matter runs over Thread, not Wi-Fi: Kwikset's support page says it needs 'a compatible smart home hub with Thread and Matter support', and its Matter page lists the Alexa hubs that qualify, including the Echo (4th Generation), the Echo Show 8 (3rd Generation), the Echo Hub and several eero routers. Kwikset also publishes a table of which lock features Alexa gets over Matter; the rest stay in the Kwikset app. Alexa's standard voice-unlock code gate applies.

Automations Amazon Alexa's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Lock state.

  7. Schlage Encode Plus

Built-in WiFi (no hub) but requires the Schlage Home app plus enabling the Alexa skill — a cloud-linked skill, not a hubless native pairing.

  8. Level Lock Pro

Matter-over-Thread needs an Echo that is a Thread border router — Level names Echo (4th gen), Echo Hub, Echo Plus (2nd gen), Echo Show 8/10 (3rd gen), Echo Studio, and eero 6/6+/Pro/Max models. The Level Connect cloud bridge exists as a non-Matter alternative, but it is a 1:1 bridge and cloud-dependent.

Automations Amazon Alexa's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Lock state.

  9. Schlage Sense Pro

Matter-over-Thread only — requires an Echo or eero that is a Thread border router; a plain Echo Dot gets no integration at all. Lock/unlock/status via Matter's Door Lock cluster, with Alexa's standard voice-unlock code gate. UWB hands-free, entrance modes, and access-code scheduling stay in the Apple Wallet/Schlage Home apps.

Automations Amazon Alexa's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Lock state.

  10. SwitchBot Lock Pro

SwitchBot says that with a Hub 2, sold separately, the Lock Pro works with Alexa for voice-controlled unlocking. It does not say whether that goes through Matter or SwitchBot's own Alexa skill.

  11. Lockly Visage Zeno Series Facial Recognition Deadbolt

Lockly names Alexa on the product page, and on this lock it works over the built-in Wi-Fi rather than through Matter — Lockly's hub page states the fallback explicitly: 'Devices not compatible with Matter, but that support Alexa or Hey Google, can still use voice control by pairing with a hub', and this lock needs no hub because its Wi-Fi is built in. Vendor's word alone; Amazon publishes no per-model entry.

  12. Wyze Lock Bolt v2

Wyze lists Alexa among the five ways to unlock the door. It does not say how the link is set up or what else Alexa can see.

Work, with an exception

  1. Yale Assure Lock 2 Plus

Works per the maker; details unconfirmed

Yale lists Amazon Alexa as a voice assistant for the Wi-Fi model of this lock. It does not say how the lock connects to Alexa or what Alexa can do with it, so locking and unlocking with Alexa are unconfirmed. Needs the built-in Wi-Fi (WF1) model.

  2. eufy FamiLock S3 Max

Works; lock/unlock and camera stream unconfirmed

eufy names Alexa for this lock but does not say what Alexa can do with it. eufy's Alexa help page lists lock and unlock commands and live camera view for other eufy locks and cameras, not this one, so lock/unlock and camera stream are both unconfirmed through Alexa.

  3. ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint (Apple Home + Wi-Fi)

Works per the maker; details unconfirmed

ULTRALOQ lists Amazon Alexa for the Wi-Fi version of this lock. It doesn't say how the lock connects to Alexa or what it can do with the lock, so locking and unlocking with Alexa are unconfirmed. The Matter edition is a separate lock.

If your home isn’t only Amazon Alexa

Of the 12 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.

  • Apple Home: 11 of 12 · 1 without full recorded support
  • Google Home: 6 of 12 · 6 without full recorded support
  • SmartThings: 8 of 12 · 4 without full recorded support
