ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint (Matter over Thread)

Compiled by SmartHomeWorkflow Research · ULTRALOQ · Smart Locks · ~$199.99 (ultraloq.com listed the Bolt Fingerprint at $199.99 on 2026-08-14, read from the storefront's structured product endpoint; the Matter-over-Thread variant (SKU BOLT-F-MATTER) carries the same price as the Wi-Fi/Apple Home variants and no compare-at figure. Price at time of research.)

⚠ Similar names, different products: 🔴 THE MOST IMPORTANT FACT ON THIS RECORD. ULTRALOQ sells TWO different locks as 'Bolt Fingerprint' on one product page, at the SAME price ($199.99), separated only by a dropdown: this one, 'Matter over Thread + Bluetooth' (SKU BOLT-F-MATTER), and a 'Apple Home + WiFi + Bluetooth' unit (SKUs UUL-BOLT-F-NK / UUL-BOLT-F-BK). They are not finishes of one product — they carry different radios, need different infrastructure, quote different battery life, and reach the ecosystems by different routes. This one has NO Wi-Fi radio and needs a Thread border router before it works at all. Anyone who buys 'the Ultraloq Bolt Fingerprint' without reading the SKU has a 50/50 chance of getting the architecture they did not want. Note also the neighbours: Bolt SE, Bolt NFC, Bolt Z-Wave, Bolt Pro and Bolt Mission are different products again.

Compatibility

EcosystemSupportThe catch
Amazon AlexaWorksWorks with this ecosystem[3]ULTRALOQ lists this variant as working with 'Matter-compatible platforms including Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings'. Everything runs over Matter-over-Thread, so the Echo in question must be a Thread border router — a plain Echo Dot gets you nothing. Alexa's standard voice-unlock code gate applies.
Google HomeWorksWorks with this ecosystem[3]Named in ULTRALOQ's Matter platform list, over Thread only — needs a Google Thread border router (Nest Hub 2nd gen, Nest Hub Max, Nest Wifi Pro). Google disables voice unlock for Matter locks and restricts remote unlock, so expect lock and status to be the reliable operations.
Apple HomeWorksWorks with this ecosystem[3]Reached through Matter rather than a legacy HomeKit pairing on this variant, so it needs a Thread-capable Apple home hub (HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K with Thread). ⚠ Do not read Apple Home Key into this: ULTRALOQ sells Home Key on its Bolt NFC line, and nothing on the Bolt Fingerprint page claims it for this model.
SmartThingsWorksWorks with this ecosystem[3]Named by ULTRALOQ ('Samsung SmartThings') and corroborated by the Matter certificate. Requires a SmartThings hub that is a Thread border router; a hubless SmartThings app cannot commission a Thread-only device.
Home AssistantWorksWorks with this ecosystem[2]Home Assistant is not mentioned anywhere on ULTRALOQ's page — this level rests on the Matter certificate, not on the vendor's word. HA's official Matter integration commissions certified locks over Thread (with a Matter server and a border router such as HA's own OpenThread Border Router add-on) and exposes lock, unlock, state and PIN-credential management. Fingerprint enrolment and user management stay in the U-tec app.

Protocols: THREAD · MATTER · BLUETOOTH[2][6]

Needs before it works: Needs a Thread border router — ULTRALOQ states it plainly for this variant ('Requires a Matter Over Thread hub controller (Thread border router)'), and the Matter certificate lists Thread as the ONLY transport. There is no Wi-Fi radio in this version to fall back on.[2]

What it can do[2]

You can tell it to

  • Lock/unlock

It reports

  • Lock state

Listed capabilities are what we could establish from vendor documentation. An ability missing here is unestablished — not necessarily absent.

Subscription reality[3]

✓ Works without a subscription: Yes.

Vendor account required: Not established — we have not sourced this yet.

No subscription is named anywhere on ULTRALOQ's product page for either version of this lock — fingerprint, keypad, app and Matter control are all described without a plan. Recorded as none on that absence.

Maintenance reality[3]

Security updates[4]

ULTRALOQ publishes no security-update support date for this model. That is a gap in what the manufacturer has published, not evidence either way — some makers declare a support period and some say nothing at all.

No security-update or firmware-support period is published for this lock. The 18-month electronics warranty is a warranty, not a patching commitment. The Matter certificate records firmware 2.34 as certified on 08/15/2024, which establishes that firmware exists and was certified — not that updates will continue.

The catch

The catch is on the shelf label, not in the lock. ULTRALOQ sells this and a Wi-Fi/Apple Home lock under one name at one price, and this is the version that cannot work on its own: no Wi-Fi radio, so without a Thread border router in the house it is a fingerprint deadbolt and nothing more. Buy it deliberately and it is the better half of the pair — a genuinely local Matter lock, every major platform reachable, and half a year more battery life. Buy it by accident and you have bought infrastructure you did not plan for. Two smaller gaps worth naming: no ANSI/BHMA grade is published for this model, and no security-update period is published either — the 18-month electronics warranty is the only dated commitment.

Who it's for

A household that already runs Thread — a HomePod, a Nest Hub, a Thread-capable Echo or SmartThings hub — and wants local Matter control across whichever platforms it uses, with fingerprint entry and the longest battery life of the two versions. Anyone without a border router should buy the Wi-Fi/Apple Home version of the same lock instead, or accept the cost of adding one.

Three variants under ONE product, all at price 199.99 with no compare_at_price and all available: 'Apple Home + WiFi + Bluetooth / Black & Satin Nickel' SKU UUL-BOLT-F-NK · 'Apple Home + WiFi + Bluetooth / Black' SKU UUL-BOLT-F-BK · 'Matter over Thread + Bluetooth / Black & Satin Nickel' SKU BOLT-F-MATTER. This record covers the last of the three. Vendor description verbatim: 'ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint is a smart fingerprint deadbolt built for fast, keyless front-door access. Unlock with your fingerprint, keypad code, smartphone app, Apple Watch, auto unlock, or a physical key, and manage access remotely with compatible Wi-Fi, Apple Home, or Matter over Thread options.' — vendor structured-endpoint read (Shopify products.json), verified 2026-08-14

  2. [2] https://csa-iot.org/csa_product/ultraloq-bolt-fingerprint-smart-deadbolt/ — certified product 'ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint Smart Deadbolt', vendor 'Xthings Inc.', certificate ID CSA24402MAT43701-24, certified 08/15/2024, Matter specification version 1.2, firmware 2.34, TRANSPORT: Thread (Thread alone; no Wi-Fi transport is listed). The registry description also names 'built-in Bluetooth Low Energy support' and 'eight AA batteries'. localOperation is 'partial' rather than 'local' because Matter-over-Thread control runs on the local fabric while the U-tec app's remote features run through the vendor's cloud. The Home Assistant level rests on this certificate plus HA's own official Matter integration; ULTRALOQ names no HA support. — registry read (CSA-IoT certified products database), verified 2026-08-14

For the OTHER version, kept separate: 'Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, IFTTT' and 'Up to 1 year with Wi-Fi connection and Alkaline batteries'. Shared specs: '8 X Alkaline AA batteries', 'Bluetooth', 'up to 50 users, each with the ability to register two fingerprints', '18 months electronic warranty and lifetime mechanical warranty'. No ANSI/BHMA grade is stated for this model — only the general claim that ULTRALOQ locks 'meet the highest possible standards from the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)'.
