No hub for the lock itself. Schlage says its Encode locks need no additional hubs or accessories because they have Wi-Fi built in, and lists the Encode Plus as 'No hub required' for Alexa. Apple Home is the exception: to control the lock remotely from the Apple Home app, use it in Apple Home automations or share Tap to Unlock with other people, Schlage says you need a HomePod or Apple TV set up as an Apple home hub.[15][43][44]

Schlage publishes no security-update support date for this model. That is a gap in what the manufacturer has published, not evidence either way — some makers declare a support period and some say nothing at all.
Schlage explains how updates arrive but, on every page we could read, not how long they keep coming. Its own support article on Encode Series firmware updates says the locks "automatically update their firmware periodically" and "download and install the latest firmware from the cloud as long as they are connected to your home Wi-Fi network and paired with the Schlage Home app". That describes how updates are delivered, with no support period, no end-of-support date and no duration anywhere in it. We also found no UK or EU regulatory declaration naming BE499WB (the Encode Plus). One page we could not read: Allegion's cybersecurity page (us.allegion.com/en/resources/cybersecurity.html), the page most likely to state a support period, would not open for us. We name it so you can check it yourself, and we are not treating a page we couldn't read as proof that nothing is published there. So read this as limited: as of 2026-08-20 there is no published support period on the pages we could read, which is not the same as no published period anywhere.
