Plugs & Outlets that work with SmartThings: the 12 that do, and what each one can't do
12 of the 20 plugs & outlets in our library work with SmartThings: 10 for everything they list, and 2 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on SmartThings specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where SmartThings's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Work for everything they list
IKEA GRILLPLATS Smart Plug
SmartThings turns the plug on and off and reads its energy use through Matter, and IKEA names Samsung among the systems it works with. You need a SmartThings hub that can act as a Thread border router.
Automations SmartThings's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Energy monitoring, Energy reading and On/off.
TP-Link Tapo P125M Mini Smart Wi-Fi Plug (Matter)
Requires a SmartThings hub with Matter controller support (e.g., Aeotec SmartThings Hub, per TP-Link FAQ 3564). TP-Link lists SmartThings on the official product page.
Automations SmartThings's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use On/off.
THIRDREALITY Smart Plug Gen2 (Power Metering)
One of the four platforms the vendor names for the full feature set, energy monitoring included: 'This function supported by Home Assistant, SmartThings, Hubitat and THIRDREALITY smart hub Gen2.' Requires a SmartThings hub with a Zigbee radio — the vendor names the 2015 and 2018 hub generations and Aeotec's.
Tapo Smart Wi-Fi In-Wall Outlet, Matter, Energy Monitoring (P210M)
TP-Link's product page names 'Samsung SmartThings' in its compatibility list, and the mechanism is the same Matter commissioning flow the quick start guide describes. Requires a SmartThings hub capable of acting as a Matter controller. TP-Link's firmware note of 28 August 2026 for hardware version 1.6 names SmartThings as one of two apps where it has verified energy readings over Matter, and describes that support as 'still evolving'.
Automations SmartThings's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Energy monitoring, Energy reading and On/off.
Tapo Smart Wi-Fi Outdoor Plug, Matter (P400M)
TP-Link's product page names 'Samsung SmartThings' in its compatibility list and the route is the same Matter commissioning flow. Requires a SmartThings hub that can act as a Matter controller; SmartThings' phone app alone is not sufficient.
Automations SmartThings's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use On/off.
Eve Energy (4th generation, Matter)
One of the two platforms where Eve says energy data surfaces natively: 'Energy management features currently available on the Samsung SmartThings and Home Assistant platforms.'
Enbrighten In-Wall Z-Wave Tamper-Resistant Smart Outlet (58449)
SmartThings is the first hub Jasco names, in both of the sentences that matter. What that buys is on, off and scheduling of the controlled outlet through a SmartThings hub with a Z-Wave radio; the always-on outlet is not controllable on any platform. Several of the hubs in Jasco's list are historical, Wink in particular, on a page that has plainly not been rewritten in years, so treat the list as evidence that the outlet is a standard Z-Wave device rather than as a current compatibility roster.
GE Cync Outdoor Smart Plug, Matter (CPLGOD2BLMS)
GE names Samsung SmartThings and the route is the same Matter commissioning flow. It needs a SmartThings hub acting as a Matter controller; the SmartThings phone app on its own will not do it. Again this is the Matter part number only — the non-Matter sibling has no SmartThings route at all.
Automations SmartThings's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use On/off.
Leviton Decora Smart Wi-Fi Tamper-Resistant Outlet, 2nd Gen (D215R)
Samsung's Works with SmartThings directory lists this outlet by its model number, D215R, as an outlet, so turning it on and off works in SmartThings. Leviton's product sheet also names SmartThings. Neither says how the outlet connects to SmartThings.
Legrand radiant Smart 15A Receptacle with Wi-Fi, Matter-Enabled, White (WWMRR15WH)
Samsung SmartThings is named in both first-party lists and joins through the same Matter commissioning flow, requiring a SmartThings hub capable of acting as a Matter controller. Nothing SmartThings-specific is documented beyond that, so expect on/off of the controlled outlet and no more.
Automations SmartThings's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use On/off.
Work, with an exception
Meross Smart Wi-Fi Surge Protector Power Strip (MSS425FHK)
Works per the maker; details unconfirmed
Meross lists SmartThings among the platforms you can use to turn the strip's outlets on and off by voice. It does not say how the strip connects to SmartThings, and it publishes no SmartThings setup article.
Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Plug Slim with Energy Monitoring (EP25)
Works; energy monitoring unconfirmed
TP-Link says you can turn this plug on and off with your voice through Samsung SmartThings devices. It does not say how the plug connects to SmartThings or whether SmartThings shows the plug's energy use, so energy monitoring is unconfirmed there.
If your home isn’t only SmartThings
Of the 10 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.
- Apple Home: 5 of 10 · 5 without full recorded support
- Google Home: 5 of 10 · 5 without full recorded support
- Amazon Alexa: 5 of 10 · 5 without full recorded support
- Home Assistant: 7 of 10 · 3 without full recorded support
