Smart Locks that work with Home Assistant: the 12 that do, and what each one can't do
12 of the 15 smart locks in our library work with Home Assistant: 10 for everything they list, and 2 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Home Assistant specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Home Assistant's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Work for everything they list
Aqara Smart Lock U200
Works through Home Assistant's official Matter support, including managing PIN codes, but you need Home Assistant's Matter add-on plus a Thread border router on the network because the lock is Thread-only. Fingerprint and tap-to-unlock enrollment and Aqara-specific settings still need the Aqara app, and community reports say managing lock codes through Matter can be unreliable on this model.
August WiFi Smart Lock (4th gen)
Official integration built into Home Assistant (since version 0.64, with updates pushed from August's cloud) covering lock/unlock, DoorSense door state, battery, and who operated the lock — but it depends entirely on the August/Yale cloud (there is no local control), some data updates slowly because August offers no instant-update feed for it, and Home Assistant's docs flag battery reporting on the Gen-4 lock as frequently inaccurate.
ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint (Matter over Thread)
Home Assistant is not mentioned anywhere on ULTRALOQ's page — this level rests on the Matter certificate, not on the vendor's word. HA's official Matter integration commissions certified locks over Thread (with a Matter server and a border router such as HA's own OpenThread Border Router add-on) and exposes lock, unlock, state and PIN-credential management. Fingerprint enrolment and user management stay in ULTRALOQ's own app, now called Xthings Home.
Aqara Smart Lock U400
Named in the same Aqara sentence, and the manual lists Home Assistant among its Matter platforms. You need Matter set up in Home Assistant and a Thread border router on your network, because the lock is Thread-only. Through Matter you get locking and unlocking. Aqara says features such as Night Latch mode and Auto-Lock settings need the Aqara Home app and are not available if you connect the lock straight to another platform.
SwitchBot Lock Ultra Vision Pro Combo
Two official HA core paths: the Bluetooth-local switchbot integration (no hub, no cloud — Lock Ultra explicitly listed: lock/unlock, door state, auto-lock, calibration, battery) and the switchbot_cloud integration via a hub. Keypad biometrics are not exposed to HA.
Kwikset Halo Select Plus Touchscreen Smart Lock
Kwikset does not name Home Assistant, but its Matter page says 'Your Matter enabled smart lock can be added to any smart home platform that supports Matter', and this lock is Matter 1.3 certified. Home Assistant's official Matter integration (with a Matter server) commissions certified locks and exposes lock/unlock, state and PIN-credential management. Kwikset's Matter mode runs over Thread, so a Home Assistant household needs a Thread border router on its network as well.
Schlage Encode Plus
Official Schlage integration built into Home Assistant (since 2023.9). It works through Schlage's cloud, refreshing the lock's state about every 30 seconds, so it needs an internet connection. The Encode Plus is an explicitly tested device, with lock control, PIN-code management, auto-lock and battery sensors. There is also an optional local alternative: Home Assistant's HomeKit controller support can connect to the lock directly over Thread.
Level Lock Pro
Local via Home Assistant's official Matter integration (Level has an official HA brand page since 2025.10); needs a Thread border router in the HA setup, and commissioning pairs over the phone's Bluetooth — community threads report initial Level-lock pairing failures.
Schlage Sense Pro
Needs the HA Matter integration (Matter server) plus a Thread border router (e.g., HA's OpenThread Border Router add-on or a Nest hub). HA's Matter lock support is unusually deep — set/clear lock users and PIN credentials via documented actions — but UWB hands-free, entrance modes, and Schlage-specific settings stay in the Schlage/Apple apps.
SwitchBot Lock Pro
Home Assistant's own SwitchBot Bluetooth integration lists the Lock Pro and can lock or unlock it locally over Bluetooth, with no SwitchBot hub or cloud needed. Your Home Assistant machine needs Bluetooth in range of the door.
Work, with an exception
Yale Assure Lock 2 Plus
Partial
Officially supported in HA core two ways, both with real setup caveats: the August/Yale-Access cloud integration lists the Assure Lock 2 (the lock must be online — built-in Wi-Fi WF1 model or a Connect bridge), and the local Yale Access Bluetooth (yalexs_ble) integration lists the YRD450 but requires extracting the Yale Access offline key. HA's docs name the base YRD450/Assure Lock 2 family, not the Home-Key '-N Plus' variant specifically.
eufy FamiLock S3 Max
Works, except camera stream
Home Assistant locks and unlocks it through its own Matter support over Wi-Fi, with no Thread border router needed, using Home Assistant's free Matter Server app. eufy says camera streams do not travel over Matter, so the camera stream stays in the eufy app. Home Assistant's own eufy integration covers eufy lights and switches only.
If your home isn’t only Home Assistant
Of the 10 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.
