Hubs & Controllers that work with Amazon Alexa: the 19 that do, and what each one can't do
19 of the 29 hubs & controllers in our library work with Amazon Alexa: 13 for everything they list, and 6 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Amazon Alexa specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Amazon Alexa's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Work for everything they list
Aqara Hub M100
Amazon Echo Dot (5th Gen, 2022 release)
This is an Alexa device: the voice assistant is the product. Amazon says Echo devices have a microphone on/off button, and the built-in motion and temperature sensors can start Alexa routines.
Aqara Hub M3
Aqara Zigbee children reach Alexa via the M3's Matter bridge — but not every Aqara Zigbee device type has a Matter mapping, only one IR AC can be bridged, setup starts in the Aqara Home app, and Thread devices join Alexa directly via Matter (the M3 does not re-bridge them). Advanced Aqara automations stay in the Aqara app.
Amazon Echo Show 11 (2025)
Native Alexa device and the hub itself. The Alexa+ tier gates the advanced conversational and proactive features — free with Prime, $19.99/mo otherwise.
Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2
Aeotec lists Alexa among the voice assistants this hub works with. The link runs through your SmartThings account: you connect SmartThings to Alexa, and Samsung says you can then control SmartThings devices by voice. Neither company says which device types or controls carry over.
Aeotec Smart Home Hub (SmartThings Hub v3)
Cloud-to-cloud linked skill, not local — Alexa control stops if the SmartThings cloud or account link is down. Alexa controls hub devices (lights, switches, thermostats, locks) and can trigger SmartThings manual Routines; motion/contact sensors are status-only.
Philips Hue Bridge Pro
Philips Hue connects this bridge to Alexa through the Hue skill, which you turn on in the Alexa app and sign in to with your Hue account; the lights and accessories on the bridge then show up in Alexa. Hue also says a bridge linked this way connects to Alexa through Matter automatically.
Amazon Echo Hub
Purpose-built Alexa control panel + Matter controller + Zigbee hub + Thread border router — all four roles documented by Amazon.
Home Assistant Green
Full Alexa exposure of HA devices — but the easy path is Home Assistant Cloud ($6.50/mo after a 30-day trial); the free path is a DIY Alexa Smart Home Skill needing an AWS account, Lambda, and your instance reachable over public HTTPS.
Sonos Era 100
Alexa is built into the speaker, not bolted on: the Tech Specs Voice row reads 'Works with Sonos Voice Control and Amazon Alexa. Availability of services varies by language and country.' The far-field mic array serves it, and a physical mic toggle disconnects it.
Amazon Echo Show 8 (2025 release)
This is an Alexa device, and it is the smart-home hub itself rather than something that plugs into one. The limit is the paid Alexa+ tier, which is what unlocks the more conversational and proactive features. What that tier costs is left blank here on purpose — the Amazon page carrying the price would not open for us, and we do not repeat a price we have not read ourselves.
Hubitat Elevation C-8 Pro
Official Amazon Echo Skill, one-way (Hubitat devices out to Alexa only) and cloud-linked through your Hubitat account. Covers switches, dimmers, locks, fan/garage-door/shade controllers, thermostats, and contact/motion sensors; plain button devices are not supported.
Homey Pro (2026)
Athom includes the voice assistant link with Homey Pro as a cloud service and lists Amazon Alexa among the assistants it works with, so the devices Homey runs can be reached from Alexa through Athom's cloud. Athom doesn't list which kinds of device or which controls carry over to Alexa.
Work, with an exception
YoLink Hub
Works per the maker; details unconfirmed
YoLink lists Alexa among the platforms its hub works with. It does not say how the hub connects to Alexa or what Alexa can do with YoLink devices, so nothing beyond the name is confirmed.
Philips Hue Bridge
Works per the maker; details unconfirmed
Philips Hue lists Alexa among the systems the Bridge works with, but the page does not say how the bridge connects to Alexa or which Hue features Alexa gets, so nothing beyond the name is confirmed.
SwitchBot Hub 3
Works per the maker; details unconfirmed
SwitchBot lists Alexa for the Hub 3, but neither SwitchBot nor Amazon says how the hub's devices reach Alexa. Amazon's Matter list covers hubs and devices, not bridges, so which devices appear is not confirmed.
IKEA DIRIGERA Hub
Works per the maker; details unconfirmed
IKEA names Amazon Alexa for this hub, but the way its page gives, the Alexa link inside the IKEA Home smart app, has been reported closed to new setups since late 2025; links made before then keep working. For a new buyer the open way in is the hub's Matter bridge, and IKEA does not say Alexa takes it or what Alexa can do with the bridged IKEA devices, so nothing beyond the name is confirmed. Only some IKEA device types cross a Matter bridge: IKEA scenes stay in the IKEA app.
Lutron Caséta Smart Hub
Works per the maker; details unconfirmed
Lutron names Alexa among the smart home devices the hub works with, but the product page does not say how the link is made or which Caséta features Alexa gets, so nothing beyond the name is confirmed.
Ring Alarm Pro Base Station
Works per the maker; details unconfirmed
Ring says you can arm your Alarm hands-free by asking Alexa, and that Ring Alarm integrates with Alexa-enabled Echo devices, but both statements say a Ring subscription is required, sold separately. The page does not list which alarm features Alexa gets beyond arming.
If your home isn’t only Amazon Alexa
Of the 13 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.
- Apple Home: 3 of 13 · 10 without full recorded support
- Google Home: 8 of 13 · 5 without full recorded support
- SmartThings: 3 of 13 · 10 without full recorded support
- Home Assistant: 4 of 13 · 9 without full recorded support
