Nothing on the Green requires payment: Home Assistant runs locally and works fully without a plan. Home Assistant Cloud, sold by Home Assistant's partner Nabu Casa, is an optional subscription that adds secure remote access from anywhere, ready-made Alexa and Google Assistant connections, cloud speech engines for the voice assistant and off-site backups, and it helps fund the project. In the US it costs $6.50 a month or $65 a year before tax, so paying yearly saves $13. Nabu Casa says the service is renamed Home Assistant Link on December 2. Without it, the Alexa and Google routes are do-it-yourself jobs.
