Aqara and Eve sensors: the hub and feature differences

Compare the exact sensor and the reading you need, rather than choosing by brand alone. Aqara and Eve both sell Matter-over-Thread sensors, but their other models use different connections and have different limits.

Door and motion sensors

Aqara Door & Window P2, Aqara Motion & Light P2, Eve Door & Window and Eve Motion need a Matter controller and a Thread border router. Check the exact hub model in our Thread guide; an Echo or Apple TV name alone does not establish that it has the required hardware.

The readings differ. Aqara documents motion but not light level for the Motion & Light P2 in Alexa. Sensitivity and detection-timeout adjustments require an Aqara hub. Eve’s door history and some motion-history features require its Apple Home and iPhone/iPad setup; those extras do not carry to every Matter platform.

For Home Assistant, Eve explicitly names both models and Aqara names Motion & Light P2. The open/closed reading from Aqara Door & Window P2 remains unconfirmed in our record. A Matter connection is not proof that the reading needed for your automation appears.

Eve Door & Window uses a replaceable half-AA lithium battery; Eve Motion uses two AAAs. Aqara Door & Window P2 uses a CR123A, and Motion & Light P2 uses two CR2450 coin batteries. Include replacement availability in your decision. Published battery figures are manufacturer claims, not our measurements.

Presence detection is a separate purchase

Aqara FP2 uses Wi-Fi and constant USB-C power. Aqara’s app handles zone configuration. Its Apple and Home Assistant routes expose zones and light level; Alexa and Google support does not include the light reading. SmartThings support for the US version remains unresolved because the companies’ model references do not align.

FP2 has no Matter support. Its documented local-automation conditions also depend on the other devices and controller involved; joining Wi-Fi directly does not make every automation independent of a hub or internet access.

Leak and room sensors use different routes

Aqara Water Leak Sensor uses Zigbee through an Aqara hub for its documented maker-supported setup. It has no built-in buzzer: an audible alarm comes from the hub. Home Assistant reads it through its own Xiaomi Gateway (Aqara) integration with a Xiaomi Mijia gateway, and lists the Aqara-branded gateway as unsupported. Google support is inconsistent in Aqara’s documentation, and SmartThings support remains unknown.

Eve Water Guard is a mains-powered HomeKit sensor with a sensing cable and an on-device siren. Nearby iPhone/iPad control needs no hub; automations and remote notifications need an Apple home hub. It is not a Matter model. Google support is recorded as unavailable; Alexa and SmartThings remain unknown, and Home Assistant’s leak reading is unconfirmed.

Eve Room is another HomeKit model, not a Matter sensor. Its remaining support page describes Apple use; other platforms and its current subscription position remain unestablished. Do not transfer the claims from Eve’s Matter products to this model.

Before you buy

Write down the required reading, the controller you own and the automation you want. Check the product page for that combination, including account requirements and firmware conditions. Security-support commitments also have model and regional limits; a UK filing is not a worldwide promise.
