Hubs & Controllers that work with Google Home: the 17 that do, and what each one can't do
17 of the 29 hubs & controllers in our library work with Google Home: 13 for everything they list, and 4 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Google Home specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Google Home's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Work for everything they list
Aqara Hub M100
Google Home Speaker (2026)
This IS the Google Home hub — Thread border router + Matter controller
Google Nest Hub (2nd gen)
Acts as a Google Home hub, a Matter controller and a Thread border router (802.15.4 at 2.4GHz) per Google's own spec page. The asterisk is directional: Gemini for Home permanently replaces Google Assistant home-wide, and Google documents no way back.
SwitchBot Hub 3
Google Home takes this hub as a Matter bridge, and Google says devices behind a Matter bridge show up in Google Home like any other device. SwitchBot lists Google for the Hub 3. What appears is limited to the device types Matter carries; anything only the SwitchBot app does stays there.
Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use Humidity reading, Motion detected and Temperature reading.
Aqara Hub M3
Zigbee children surface in Google Home through the M3's Matter bridge; not all Aqara Zigbee device types can be exposed to Matter, only one IR AC bridges, setup requires the Aqara Home app first, and Thread devices join Google Home directly via Matter rather than through the bridge.
Google Nest Hub Max
This is Google's own hardware and it is a hub, not just a client: a Matter controller and a Thread border router by Google's own spec row, named in both of Google's published hub lists. The asterisk is the assistant, and it is one-way. Google names this model among the displays getting 'the complete Gemini for Home voice assistant', and states that once a home switches, 'it can't switch back to Google Assistant'. The choice is made per home, not per device, so a single Gemini opt-in anywhere in the house takes this display with it. Live view of its camera and music and video playback both work in Google Home, by Google's own pages.
Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2
Aeotec lists Google Home among the voice assistants this hub works with, and it works the same way as Alexa: you link your SmartThings account in Google's app. Samsung does not say which devices or controls carry over.
Aeotec Smart Home Hub (SmartThings Hub v3)
Cloud-to-cloud account link via the Google Home app, not local. Google only sees devices registered to the one SmartThings location you pick during linking, and sensor coverage is status-check only.
Philips Hue Bridge Pro
Philips Hue connects this bridge to Google Home when you link your Hue account through Works with Google in the Google Home app; the lights and rooms on the bridge then show up in Google Home.
Home Assistant Green
Full Google Home exposure — the easy path is Home Assistant Cloud ($6.50/mo after a 30-day trial); the free path is a manual Google Assistant integration requiring a Google Cloud developer project and an externally accessible HTTPS instance.
Hubitat Elevation C-8 Pro
Official built-in Google Home app, one-way (Hubitat devices out to Google only) via Works-with-Google cloud account linking. The supported device list is narrower than Alexa's: switches, dimmers, thermostats, and RGB/RGBW/color-temperature bulbs — locks and sensors are not in Hubitat's supported list.
SwitchBot AI Hub
Named directly in SwitchBot's own integration list for this product, alongside Apple Home and Home Assistant. The mechanism SwitchBot names for the group is Matter bridging, so what reaches Google Home is bounded by what Matter's device types can express rather than by everything the SwitchBot app offers.
Homey Pro (2026)
Athom includes the voice assistant link with Homey Pro as a cloud service and lists Google Assistant among the assistants it works with, so the devices Homey runs can be reached from Google Home through Athom's cloud. Athom doesn't list which kinds of device or which controls carry over to Google.
Work, with an exception
YoLink Hub
Works per the maker; details unconfirmed
YoLink lists Google among the platforms its hub works with, without saying whether that means Google Home or Google Assistant. It does not say how the hub connects to Google or what Google can do with YoLink devices.
Philips Hue Bridge
Works per the maker; details unconfirmed
Philips Hue names Google Assistant and Google Home for the Bridge, but the page does not say how the bridge connects to Google or which Hue features carry over, so nothing beyond the name is confirmed.
IKEA DIRIGERA Hub
Partial
Same Matter-bridge basis and device-type limits as Alexa; the legacy Google Home cloud link was removed for new setups around November 2025 — existing links keep working but cannot be re-established. Checked again 2026-08-10: IKEA's product page still advertises connecting to Google Home 'through integrations in the IKEA Home smart app', the withdrawn route; this cell follows the vendor's dated statement over its sales copy.
Lutron Caséta Smart Hub
Works per the maker; details unconfirmed
Lutron names Google Assistant among the smart home devices the hub works with, but the product page does not say how the link is made or which Caséta features carry over, so nothing beyond the name is confirmed.
If your home isn’t only Google Home
Of the 13 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.
- Apple Home: 5 of 13 · 8 without full recorded support
- Amazon Alexa: 8 of 13 · 5 without full recorded support
- SmartThings: 4 of 13 · 9 without full recorded support
- Home Assistant: 5 of 13 · 8 without full recorded support
