Thermostats that work with Amazon Alexa: the 12 that do, and what each one can't do

1. Sensibo Sky

   Works; HVAC mode and fan mode unconfirmed

   Sensibo lists Alexa as one of its official integrations, linked through Sensibo's cloud and account, so it stops when the internet does. Sensibo says you can change the temperature or set a schedule by voice once the Sky is linked. It does not say whether Alexa can change the mode or the fan speed.

2. ecobee3 Lite

   Works; target temperature unconfirmed

   ecobee connects this thermostat to Alexa through the ecobee skill, which you turn on in the Alexa app and sign in to with your ecobee account. Which controls Alexa gets on this model is not confirmed yet, so target temperature is unconfirmed there.

3. Sensibo Air PRO

   Works; three functions unconfirmed (see the note)

   Sensibo lists Alexa as one of its official integrations, linked through Sensibo's cloud and account, so it stops when the internet does. Sensibo's pages for the Air PRO say only that it works with Alexa for hands-free control: they do not say whether Alexa can change the mode, the target temperature or the fan speed.

4. ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium

   Works; HVAC mode unconfirmed

   Alexa is built into the thermostat itself — microphone, speaker, two-way talk, and music streaming via Spotify Connect and Amazon Music, so it doubles as an Echo in the hallway. It can also send intercom announcements to a HomePod mini or an Alexa device elsewhere in the house. ecobee says you can ask Alexa to change the temperature on this model, even in Auto mode. ecobee's list of Alexa commands does include switching between heat, cool, auto and off, but that list covers ecobee devices in general and doesn't name this model, so changing the HVAC mode with Alexa is unconfirmed here.

5. Cielo Breez Max

   Works; fan mode unconfirmed

   Cielo connects its thermostats to Alexa through the Cielo Home skill: you turn it on in the Alexa app and sign in with your Cielo Home account. Cielo lists what Alexa gets: switching the mode between cool, heat, auto and off, and setting the temperature, by voice or in the Alexa app. It doesn't mention fan speed, so fan speed is unconfirmed in Alexa. Cielo says the smart features need a working Wi-Fi connection.

6. Amazon Smart Thermostat

   Works; HVAC mode unconfirmed

   Setup happens in the Alexa app, and that step is mandatory even if you plan to use the Ring app afterwards. Setting the temperature works through Alexa. HVAC mode is unconfirmed on Alexa: Amazon's help names switching between heat, cool and auto only in the Ring app, and does not say whether Alexa can do it. Voice control also needs an Alexa-enabled device; the thermostat has no microphone of its own.

7. Sensibo Air

   Works; fan mode unconfirmed

   Sensibo says the Air links to Alexa in one click and that you can change the temperature or switch modes with a voice command. Fan mode is unconfirmed on Alexa: Sensibo does not say whether you can change the fan speed from Alexa.

8. ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential

   Works per the maker; details unconfirmed

   ecobee lists Alexa among the platforms this thermostat pairs with. It doesn't say how it connects to Alexa or what Alexa can control, so setting the temperature and changing the heating or cooling mode with Alexa are unconfirmed.
