• C-wire required — a C-wire power adapter kit may be needed and is sold separately; the box holds the thermostat, installation tool, wall plate, cosmetic plate and quick-start guide. Works with most 24V systems, including conventional forced air, heat pumps and radiant boilers; not compatible with 110–240V systems such as electric baseboard heat. Amazon's own setup materials describe single-stage systems, and Ring's current spec sheet does not address multi-stage, so confirm your wiring before buying. 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only — no 5 GHz. 1-year limited warranty.

The catch

Alexa-first by design: setup runs through the Alexa app, and there is no HomeKit, Google Home, SmartThings or Matter path — the Ring app is the only alternative, and it is another Amazon app. On the wiring side it is less restrictive than it looks: most 24V systems work, heat pumps and radiant boilers included, but not 110–240V electric baseboard heat, and Amazon's setup materials describe single-stage systems.

Who it's for

Alexa households with a straightforward 24V system who want the cheapest thermostat that behaves reliably. Wrong fit for anyone on Apple Home, Google Home or SmartThings, and worth confirming your wiring first if your system is multi-stage or dual-fuel.
