ecobee3 Lite

Compiled by SmartHomeWorkflow Research · ecobee · Thermostats · ~$119.99 (at time of research — ecobee's own certified-refurbished price, the only channel in which ecobee itself still sells this thermostat. Never treated as a live price. ⚠ Re-checked 2026-09-01: ecobee's listing now reads "Price discounted to $89.99 from a regular price of $119.99". The record carries the REGULAR price and records the promotion here rather than chasing it — the same call made on the Smart Thermostat Essential on 2026-08-29, for the same reason: a sale figure with no stated end date expires unannounced, and a catalogue that follows promotions goes stale the day they end.)

Raised from 'unknown' to 'full' on 2026-08-07: ecobee still sells this thermostat itself as Certified Refurbished, in stock, 'Covered by the same 3-year limited warranty as brand new ecobee thermostats', and that live listing names Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple Home and Samsung SmartThings as working integrations. A vendor selling a unit today under a full new-product warranty is the strongest service signal available short of a written support window — and ecobee publishes no end-of-support date for this model, so none is claimed here. Discontinued as a new product in March 2025 and it will never get Matter — but ecobee still sells it refurbished itself at $119.99 with the same 3-year warranty as new, which puts it only $20 under the Smart Thermostat Essential at $139.99. Buying a discontinued model to save $20 is the decision, not a bargain. (Both were discounted when last checked on 2026-09-01 — the Lite to $89.99, the Essential to $119.99 — so the gap a buyer sees today may be $30; neither promotion has a stated end date.)

Not established — we could not confirm this from vendor documentation

Listed capabilities are what we could establish from vendor documentation. An ability missing here is unestablished — not necessarily absent.

Subscription reality[20]

✓ Works without a subscription: Yes.

Vendor account required: Not established — we have not sourced this yet.

eco+ optimization software is free; the only ecobee subscription (Smart Security) is irrelevant to thermostat-only use

Maintenance reality[8][9]

Who it's for

Existing owners checking what still works, and buyers who specifically want this model refurbished from ecobee rather than from a third-party reseller — anyone shopping the budget ecobee path fresh should price it against the Smart Thermostat Essential first.

[20] ecobee.com/en-us/smart-thermostats/certified-refurbished-ecobee3-lite/ and ecobee.com/en-us/smart-thermostats/, both re-read 2026-09-01: neither page names any subscription, plan or paid tier for a thermostat, and the refurbished listing's only recurring-cost language is the "3-year warranty". The listing's power specification is "Wired 24VAC through terminals C and Rc" with no battery of any kind named. — vendor-page research, verified 2026-09-01

  21. [21] This record's own re-verification pass of 2026-09-01 (BQ-107 batch 45): ecobee.com's certified-refurbished ecobee3 lite listing, ecobee.com's smart-thermostats lineup page, ecobee.com/en-us/works-with-ecobee/ (404), home-assistant.io/integrations/ecobee/ and home-assistant.io/integrations/homekit_controller/ — all read in full on the day of the stamp. — full-record re-verification, verified 2026-09-01

  22. [22] Matter Distributed Compliance Ledger re-read 2026-09-02 via tools/dcl-lookup.mjs. `models 4224` → "DCL returned HTTP 404"; the tool's `absence 4224` REFUSES to print a negative from that response. Control the same day: `models 5015` (SwitchBot) answered 200 and enumerated 25 models, and `vendors ecobee` scanned 842 vendor records to pagination exhaustion and found VID 4224 "ecobee [legal: ecobee Technologies ULC]". — marker migration (16 #616 — absence semantics, no re-verification of the claim), verified 2026-09-02
