⚠ Similar names, different products: Sensibo sells three controllers whose names differ by one word, and the difference is not cosmetic: the Sky ($89) has NO Apple HomeKit support, while the Air ($109) and this Air PRO ($139) do — Sensibo's own comparison guide marks HomeKit '—' for Sky and '✓' for the other two, and the Sky product page's FAQ says it outright. Air quality sensing is the Air PRO's alone. A buyer who reads 'Sensibo' as one product will get a different Apple household than they expect.

• Apple Home: Sensibo's own HomeKit page, written against the Air PRO, scopes what Apple Home reaches: "After setup, you'll be able to control modes (Off, Heat, Cool & Auto) and adjust temperature settings", and "HomeKit does not currently support fan levels and horizontal or vertical swing functions." So fan_mode is available through Sensibo's app and Home Assistant, and not through Apple Home.

The Energy Saver Plan (also sold as Sensibo Plus) is $30/year, or $6/month billed monthly. What stays FREE is the part most buyers are actually buying: app control, schedules, timers, geofencing, filter reminders, device sharing, PureBoost, and Climate React — the sensor-driven automation that is Sensibo's marquee feature. The plan adds energy statistics, the Optimus AI optimizer, Anti-Mold, AC Health Check, an AI assistant, advanced statistics, Auto-Off, an extended 12-month warranty and a store discount. One subscription covers every Sensibo device at one location.

Maintenance reality^[2][7]

• Works without the internet: No — the core function depends on the vendor's servers, so an outage takes it with them.^[5]
• Mains-powered by a supplied 5V 1A micro-USB adapter (110–240V), so it needs an outlet near the AC unit; mounts with supplied double-sided tape or a screw hole. Radios as published: Sensibo lists '2 radios − WiFi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)' and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4 GHz only — no 5 GHz. Sensibo documents no Bluetooth control path, so BLE is not listed under protocols; it is named here because a buyer comparing spec sheets will see it on Sensibo's page and should know we read it and made a judgement rather than missed it. Air quality sensing on this model covers TVOC and CO2 with real-time alerts.
• Security updates: Sensibo publishes no security-update support date for this model. That is a gap in what the manufacturer has published, not evidence either way — some makers declare a support period and some say nothing at all.^[2]

The catch

It is an infrared blaster, and that decides almost everything about living with it. Sensibo controls the air conditioner by imitating the handset — 'infrared signals that mimic your AC's remote over WiFi' — which is why it works with more or less any AC or heat pump that came with a remote, and also why it is talking at the unit rather than with it. On split systems that mostly does not bite. On window and portable ACs it does, and Sensibo says so in its own troubleshooting: those units take relative commands rather than absolute ones, so Sensibo sends 'increase temperature by 1 degree' instead of 'set to 72°F', and the moment somebody presses a button on the AC itself the app's idea of the state and the unit's actual state come apart. Sensibo's fix is to realign them by hand and then use only the app. Second thing: there is no local control path. Every integration here — Alexa, Google, SmartThings, even HomeKit — is documented through Sensibo's cloud and account, so an internet outage leaves you with the original remote. Third: Matter appears nowhere in Sensibo's material, so a Matter-first household is buying a cloud device.

Who it's for

Anyone with a mini-split, window, portable or other remote-controlled AC who wants app, voice and schedule control without replacing the unit — which is the whole point, since the alternative is a new AC. It suits Apple households particularly well among the three Sensibo models, because HomeKit is one of the two things the PRO has and the cheaper Sky does not. It is a poor fit if you need the AC to keep working under smart control when the internet is down, if you want Matter, or if you run a window unit that people also operate by hand — that last combination is the one Sensibo itself warns about.
