Thermostats that work with Google Home: the 11 that do, and what each one can't do

11 of the 12 thermostats in our library work with Google Home: 4 for everything they list, and 7 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Google Home specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Google Home's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Work for everything they list

  1. Honeywell Home X2S Smart Thermostat

Google Home sets the temperature and switches heating and cooling modes through Matter, because Google lists thermostats among the Matter devices it supports. You need a Google Home hub that acts as a Matter controller. Resideo marks the X2S as Matter certified and names Google Assistant, but does not say how it connects to Google; its product page marks only Apple Home as working through Matter.

Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use HVAC mode, Target temperature and Temperature reading.

  2. Honeywell Home T9 Smart Thermostat

Resideo says Google Assistant can show and control both the thermostat and its room sensors. You connect it by linking your Honeywell Home account through Works with Google in the Google Home app.

  3. Honeywell Home X8S Smart Thermostat

    Matter only; basic thermostat control

Automations Google Home's Matter page lists this kind of device; its automations can use HVAC mode, Target temperature and Temperature reading.

  4. Google Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen)

    Deepest integration + auto-learning

Work, with an exception

  1. Sensibo Sky

    Works; fan mode unconfirmed

Sensibo lists Google Home and Google Assistant as official integrations, linked through Sensibo's cloud and account like Alexa. Sensibo's Google setup pages give voice commands that turn the AC on and off, set the temperature and switch between cooling and heating; they do not mention fan speed.

  2. ecobee3 Lite

    Works; target temperature unconfirmed

ecobee connects this thermostat to Google Home when you link your ecobee account through Works with Google in the Google Home app. ecobee doesn't say which controls Google gets, so target temperature is unconfirmed there.

  3. Sensibo Air PRO

  4. ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium

    Works; HVAC mode unconfirmed

ecobee connects this thermostat to Google Home when you link your ecobee account through Works with Google in the Google Home app, and says you can ask your voice assistant to adjust the temperature. ecobee doesn't say whether Google can switch between heating and cooling, so HVAC mode is unconfirmed there.

  5. Cielo Breez Max

Works per the maker; details unconfirmed

Cielo lists Google Assistant among the platforms the Breez Max works with. It does not say how the Breez Max connects to Google Home or which settings Google can change, so temperature, mode and fan speed are not confirmed there.

  6. Sensibo Air

    Works; fan mode unconfirmed

Sensibo says the Air links to Google's assistant in one click and that you can change the temperature or switch modes with a voice command. Fan mode is unconfirmed on Google Home: Sensibo does not say whether you can change the fan speed from Google.

  7. ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential

Works; target temperature and HVAC mode unconfirmed

ecobee connects this thermostat to Google Home when you link your ecobee account through Works with Google in the Google Home app. ecobee doesn't say which controls Google gets, so target temperature and HVAC mode are unconfirmed there.

If your home isn’t only Google Home

Of the 4 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.

  • Apple Home: 3 of 4 · 1 without full recorded support
  • Amazon Alexa: 4 of 4
  • SmartThings: 3 of 4 · 1 without full recorded support
