Thermostats that work with Home Assistant: the 10 that do, and what each one can't do
10 of the 12 thermostats in our library work with Home Assistant: 9 for everything they list, and 1 with an exception named on each. Every one of them is listed here with the catch that applies on Home Assistant specifically — the setup it needs, what stays stuck in the vendor's own app, and where Home Assistant's automations can't reach a capability the device has.

Work for everything they list
Honeywell Home X2S Smart Thermostat
Home Assistant sets the temperature and switches heating and cooling modes through its own Matter support, which runs on Home Assistant's free Matter Server app. Resideo marks the X2S as Matter certified but does not name Home Assistant.
Sensibo Sky
Home Assistant's own Sensibo integration lists the Sky among the devices it supports and controls its mode, target temperature and fan speed. It works through Sensibo's cloud with a key from your Sensibo account, checking in once a minute, so it stops when the internet or Sensibo's service is down. Sensibo itself files Home Assistant under community integrations and asks owners not to contact its support about it.
ecobee3 Lite
Home Assistant's built-in ecobee integration lets you set the target temperature, and it reaches the thermostat through ecobee's cloud, checking it at intervals rather than locally. Home Assistant says its integration also changes the HVAC mode (heat, cool, auto and off); ecobee does not list that for the ecobee3 lite. The integration is community-maintained, and since Home Assistant 2026.3 you no longer need to register for an ecobee developer key. Local control is also possible through Home Assistant's HomeKit Device integration.
Sensibo Air PRO
Home Assistant's own Sensibo integration lists the Air Pro among the devices it supports and controls its mode, target temperature and fan speed. It works through Sensibo's cloud with a key from your Sensibo account, checking in once a minute, so it stops when the internet or Sensibo's service is down. Sensibo itself files Home Assistant under community integrations and sends owners to Home Assistant's forum rather than its own support.
Honeywell Home X8S Smart Thermostat
Home Assistant sets the temperature and switches heating and cooling modes through its own Matter support, which runs locally. Resideo marks the X8S as Matter certified but does not name Home Assistant. Schedules and air-quality readings stay in the First Alert app, and Home Assistant's older Honeywell cloud integration does not cover the X-series.
ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium
Official, but it goes through ecobee's servers rather than talking to the thermostat on your own network — so when ecobee has an outage, Home Assistant loses the thermostat with it. Setup got easier: since Home Assistant 2026.3 an ecobee.com login is enough, and the developer key you used to have to register first is now optional rather than mandatory. Coverage is broad once it is connected — setting the temperature and switching between heat, cool, auto and off, the remote room sensors, the humidifier, switches, numeric settings, on-off sensors, notifications and weather. One limit on that login: if your ecobee account uses two-step sign-in, Home Assistant accepts the code from an authenticator app or the code ecobee sends you by text message, but not push or email codes. If you want it local only, pair it through Home Assistant's HomeKit Device integration instead.
Google Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen)
Via Matter you get standard local climate control; Home Assistant's official Google Nest (SDM) cloud integration is the documented alternative — it covers all Nest thermostat models but requires Google's one-time $5 Device Access fee.
Cielo Breez Max
The strongest cell on this record, and the one that separates the Max from most of its own siblings: Home Assistant's official cielo_home integration names 'Cielo Breez Max' in its supported-device list, is maintained by Cielo's own staff, and is classified Bronze quality, Cloud Polling — a vendor-backed core integration, the opposite of the shelf's Sensibo precedent where the vendor disclaims Home Assistant support. Cloud Polling means the path runs through Cielo's cloud, not your LAN.
ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential
Home Assistant's ecobee integration is community-maintained and works through your ecobee account in the cloud rather than talking to the thermostat on your own network. It sets the temperature and switches between heat, cool, auto and off. Since Home Assistant 2026.3 an ecobee login is enough — no developer key to register first. If you want local control instead, pair the thermostat through Home Assistant's HomeKit Device integration.
Work, with an exception
Honeywell Home T9 Smart Thermostat
Works; fan mode unconfirmed
Home Assistant's built-in Honeywell Lyric integration names the T9 and covers temperature and heating and cooling mode, but neither Home Assistant nor Resideo says whether it can change the fan mode. It goes through Resideo's servers rather than your own network, and it needs a Resideo developer account and key that you register yourself first, which is real friction before anything works. The local alternative is to pair the thermostat through Home Assistant's HomeKit Controller integration instead.
If your home isn’t only Home Assistant
Of the 9 in the first group, these counts show how many also have full recorded support in each other system. The remaining products may have limits, no supported route, or unconfirmed support; these counts do not establish what extra equipment would solve the gap.
- Apple Home: 6 of 9 · 3 without full recorded support
- Google Home: 3 of 9 · 6 without full recorded support
- Amazon Alexa: 3 of 9 · 6 without full recorded support
