myQ alternatives: match the opener and platform

Illustration of a garage door with five platform doors beside it, four of them shut and one open, and a row of replacement controllers below

If myQ does not connect to the platform you use, check your opener’s exact model and learn button before buying a replacement controller. Opener compatibility and platform compatibility are separate questions.

Chamberlain lists Apple Home, Google Home and SmartThings as unsupported for myQ. Home Assistant removed its myQ integration in December 2023. Amazon Key delivery is not general Alexa voice control.

Check the opener first

White-learn-button Security+ 3.0 openers are explicitly excluded by ratgdo32, Konnected GDO blaQ and Tailwind. See our Security+ 3.0 guide for the documented workaround and unanswered combinations.

A yellow button generally indicates Security+ 2.0, but ratgdo documents an exception for the 8500/8500C jackshaft family. Match the model against the manufacturer’s instructions. Earlier colours do not establish universal compatibility either.

Meross MSG100 needs a remote adapter for a yellow-button Security+ 2.0 opener. Tailwind documents direct support for that generation. Use the exact controller’s compatibility checker rather than a brand-wide claim.

Compare the platform route

ControllerDocumented routeCondition before buying
ratgdo32Native Apple firmware or Home Assistant through its other firmwareFirmware is not included; builds are mutually exclusive; Home Assistant lock control is unconfirmed
Konnected GDO blaQLocal Home Assistant; cloud Alexa and SmartThingsApple firmware is experimental; Google Matter firmware requires early-access acceptance
Tailwind iQ3Apple Home, cloud voice routes, official local Home Assistant integrationHome Assistant needs a local control key and supported firmware; model-specific door limits apply
OpenGarageOfficial local Home Assistant integrationOther mainstream platform routes remain unknown; use the exact installation instructions
SwitchBot kitHome Assistant Bluetooth garage-door control; Matter relay connectionMatter presents a switch rather than linked door state
Genie Aladdin ConnectCloud Alexa, Google and SmartThings; Home AssistantNo native Apple Home; Home Assistant sign-in requires an active Home Assistant Cloud subscription

A local Home Assistant connection does not make that controller’s Alexa or Google route local. Likewise, native Apple Home pairing does not remove Apple’s remote-access hub requirements.

Check state and safety, not only the button in an app

Meross names Alexa and Google for MSG100, but their open/close functions remain unconfirmed. Its SmartThings route has reported state-update failures; do not assume a wall-button movement produces a reliable automation trigger.

SwitchBot’s Matter relay tile is separate from the included contact sensor. Verify true door state and the expected voice safeguards rather than treating it as a native Matter garage-door accessory. Matter support depends on the device type and implemented features.

Read warning, obstruction-sensor and installation requirements in the exact manuals. Konnected documents a five-second audible and visual warning before closing that cannot be disabled. Other products document different behaviour; a platform badge is not a safety assessment.

Nexx NXG-300 has a recorded 2023 CISA security advisory affecting the product line. Nexx announced an update, but the record does not establish a verified fixed-version boundary. Read that unresolved history before considering it.

Your next step

Record your opener model, learn-button colour, preferred platform and required actions. Compare those details in the garage directory and checker. Confirm unresolved compatibility with the manufacturer before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add any controller to a white-learn-button opener?

No. ratgdo32, Konnected GDO blaQ and Tailwind explicitly exclude Security+ 3.0. OpenGarage documents a spare-remote workaround with limits; other unanswered combinations need manufacturer confirmation.

Is myQ door control subscription-only?

No. Its recorded app door controls and alerts work without a paid plan. IFTTT access and recorded video on camera-equipped openers are separate paid features.
