Compatibility
| Ecosystem | Support | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Alexa | Doesn't workVerified: does not work with this ecosystem[6] | Pentair's own app FAQ states it plainly: 'At this time, Pentair Pool and Pentair Pro are not integrated with other smart home devices, or connected via voice with at home assistants.' The old custom skill ('Alexa, ask Pentair Chat…') rode the LEGACY intellicenter.com portal, which timed out on both HTTP and HTTPS when checked 2026-08-10 — and Pentair has been migrating users off it to the Pentair Pool app, which has no voice path. |
| Google Home | Doesn't workVerified: does not work with this ecosystem[13] | No official Google Home path; Pentair's FAQ states its apps aren't connected to voice assistants |
| Apple Home | Doesn't workVerified: does not work with this ecosystem[5] | No official Apple Home support (Pentair's FAQ: its apps aren't integrated with smart home devices or voice assistants); enthusiasts bridge it into Apple Home with the community homebridge-pentair-intellicenter plugin, which requires running a Homebridge server. |
| SmartThings | Doesn't workVerified: does not work with this ecosystem[5] | Pentair states its apps are not integrated with smart home devices, and the only SmartThings paths for Pentair controllers were community Groovy projects (bsileo SmartThings_Pentair, marked end-of-life with final release April 2018) that died when SmartThings retired the Groovy platform. |
| Home Assistant | PartialPartial support — see the catch[13] | Community/HACS integrations only (jlvaillant/intellicenter + forks) — but they use IntelliCenter's LOCAL API (ports 6680/6681), no cloud dependency once installed. HA core's 'screenlogic' integration does NOT cover IntelliCenter (EasyTouch/IntelliTouch only) |
What it can do[10]
You can tell it to
- On/off
It reports
- Temperature reading
- Alexa: Nothing above is reachable from Alexa. Pentair states the negative itself: "At this time, Pentair Pool and Pentair Pro are not integrated with other smart home devices, or connected via voice with at home assistants." (pentair.com/en-us/app-support/app-faqs.html, re-read 2026-08-22). The action and trigger above rest entirely on a Home Assistant community integration talking to IntelliCenter's local network interface — a route Alexa has no path into. The legacy custom skill this record already documents rode the retired intellicenter.com portal.
- Google Home: Nothing above is reachable from Google Home, on the same first-party sentence: "At this time, Pentair Pool and Pentair Pro are not integrated with other smart home devices, or connected via voice with at home assistants." (pentair.com/en-us/app-support/app-faqs.html, re-read 2026-08-22). Pentair publishes no Google Home path of any kind for the IntelliCenter.
- Apple Home: Nothing above is reachable from Apple Home. Same vendor sentence: "At this time, Pentair Pool and Pentair Pro are not integrated with other smart home devices, or connected via voice with at home assistants." (pentair.com/en-us/app-support/app-faqs.html, re-read 2026-08-22). The only route anyone has built is the community homebridge-pentair-intellicenter plugin, which requires running a Homebridge server — so reaching on/off or a water temperature from Apple Home means running third-party software Pentair neither ships nor supports.
- SmartThings: Nothing above is reachable from SmartThings. Same vendor sentence: "At this time, Pentair Pool and Pentair Pro are not integrated with other smart home devices, or connected via voice with at home assistants." (pentair.com/en-us/app-support/app-faqs.html, re-read 2026-08-22), and the only SmartThings routes ever built for Pentair controllers were community Groovy projects that died when SmartThings retired the Groovy platform.
- Home Assistant: The only platform that reaches anything — and by a route Pentair neither publishes nor supports: the community integration jlvaillant/intellicenter, which "Connect[s] to a Pentair Intellicenter thru the local (network) interface". Local rather than cloud, so unlike this shelf's cloud-relayed community integrations it does not die with a vendor backend. TWO OF ITS OWN CONDITIONS BOUND WHAT IS CLAIMED ABOVE, quoted because they are the reason two obvious terms are absent: the water-heater entity is created only "if applicable" and is described by its OFF / IDLE / ON status, while the desired temperature is exposed as "a sensor for the desired temperature" — a read — so no heater setpoint control is claimed; and the pump power, RPM and GPM sensors exist only "if the pump supports these features", so neither an energy reading nor a water-flow reading is claimed for the controller itself. Listed capabilities are what we could establish from vendor documentation. An ability missing here is unestablished — not necessarily absent.
Subscription reality[1][6]
✓ Works without a subscription: Yes.
Vendor account required: Optional — there is a documented way to use it without one.[6]
First-party, re-verified 2026-08-10: 'Pentair Pool app service is included within the cost of the device with no separate annual fee' (Pentair app FAQ). Remote app control requires a Pentair cloud account.
Maintenance reality
- Works without the internet: Partly — some of it keeps working and some of it does not. See the detail below.[6]
- Pro-installed load center (high-voltage wiring). Remote/app access rides Pentair's AWS cloud; the local touchscreen and the community local API keep working offline. App lineage has churned (intellicenter.com → IntelliCenter2 → Pentair Home → Pentair Pool) with forced account migrations
- Security updates: No security-update support date is on record for this model yet. We haven't yet checked whether Pentair publishes one, so this is a gap in our research — not a statement about the manufacturer.
The catch
The most expandable controller of the big three (40 aux + 32 feature circuits) with the weakest official smart-home story: no Google, no Apple, and an Alexa skill tied to a legacy account system with a documented outage history — Pentair's own FAQ admits its current apps have no voice integration. well-developed local Home Assistant support, but it's volunteer-maintained.
Who it's for
Owners of Pentair-equipped pools (IntelliFlo, IntelliChlor, multiple water features) wanting maximum circuit capacity — and, via the community local API, arguably the strongest Home Assistant pool controller despite the weak official voice support.

- [8] BQ-191 provider-side assessment, 2026-08-20. pentair.com's IntelliCenter page, read 2026-08-20: the system "connects to the Pentair Pool app for centralized control for multiple pool devices, from water features to lights to pumps", and names IntelliFlo3 pumps, MasterTemp heaters, IntelliBrite 5G lights, IntelliChlor and IntelliValve actuators as the equipment it manages. The page states no connection protocol at all — no RS-485, no relay detail, and no smart-home radio. — vendor-page research (BQ-191 provider-side backfill, batch 2), verified 2026-08-20
- [9] pentair.com's IntelliCenter product page, read 2026-08-20. App control is stated — "Easy control from anywhere, any time with the Pentair Pool app" and "IntelliCenter owners can now control their automation system on the Pentair Pool app" — and every listed SKU in the specifications table includes a "High Powered Wireless" component, with the product shipping a "High Powered Wireless Link Kit". The page never states whether that kit is what puts the system on the network, or whether the panel also has its own Wi-Fi. — vendor-page research (BQ-191 provider backfill, population (b): the `hubs` axis), verified 2026-08-20Backs: Required hub or bridge
- [10] Two surfaces, read 2026-08-22. ① The Home Assistant community integration for the Pentair IntelliCenter (jlvaillant/intellicenter), which names the system — "Connect to a Pentair Intellicenter thru the local (network) interface" — and enumerates the entities it creates: per body of water, "a switch to turn the body on and off", "a sensor for the last temperature" and "a sensor for the desired temperature", plus "a water heater entity (if applicable)" reporting OFF, IDLE or ON; "creates a switch for all circuits marked as 'Featured' on the IntelliCenter"; "a switch controls 'Vacation mode'"; "for each light (and light show) it creates a Light entity"; "for each heater, a binary sensor will indicate is the heater is running"; "for each schedule, a binary_sensor will indicate if the schedule is currently running"; "a binary_sensor will indicate if the system is in Freeze prevention mode"; "if the pool has a IntelliChem unit, sensors will be created for ph level, ORP level, ph tank level and ORP tank level"; "for each pump, a binary_sensor is created" with power, RPM and GPM sensors "if the pump supports these features"; and "sensors will be created for each sensor in the system (like Water and Air)". Its own scope caveat, quoted because it bears on how much weight the entry can take: "I could only test using my own pool configuration... These may work out of the box or not...". ② pentair.com's IntelliCenter product page, re-read the same day, which corroborates the control relationship without enumerating any capability: the system "connects to the Pentair Pool app for centralized control for multiple pool devices, from water features to lights to pumps", "Easy control from anywhere, any time with the Pentair Pool app", "monitor and control your pool from anywhere". ③ pentair.com's app FAQ, re-read the same day, for the four negatives: "At this time, Pentair Pool and Pentair Pro are not integrated with other smart home devices, or connected via voice with at home assistants." — counterparty-source check, verified 2026-08-22Backs: Capabilities
- [11] No source was read for this entry. It records how the three in-scope `none` cells classified, why no marker is owed, and one judgment that deliberately departs from the instruction this pass was given — so a reviewer can overturn it rather than discover it. — unconditioned-negative classification (doc 16 #453, pool unit) — a reading pass over evidence this record already carries; no vendor page was fetched, verified 2026-08-22
- [12] Pentair, IntelliCenter Pool Control System — verbatim: "IntelliCenter Pool Control System is the most versatile Pentair automation system" · "Easily expandable, this system connects to the Pentair Pool app for centralized control for multiple pool devices, from water features to lights to pumps." · "The IntelliCenter Pool Control System helps make pool life as easy as it should be." · "IntelliCenter owners can now control their automation system on the Pentair Pool app." — vendor-page research (BQ-319 provides sweep — first-party re-read through tools/lib/gated-fetch.mjs), verified 2026-09-02Backs: What it provides to your home
- [13] Two Pentair surfaces plus the Home Assistant counterparty doc, all read 2026-09-03 through tools/lib/gated-fetch.mjs (HTTP 200). ① **The vendor's explicit negative**, from Pentair's app FAQ (https://www.pentair.com/en-us/app-support/app-faqs.html), answering the question "Does the Pentair Pool app or range of connected products work with my smart home system?" — verbatim: "However, at this time, Pentair Pool and Pentair Pro are not integrated with other smart home devices, or connected via voice with at home assistants." That is a stated non-support, not an absence, and it is what `google: none` rests on. ② **The scope check that makes ① apply to THIS product**: the IntelliCenter product page, re-read the same day, states "this system connects to the Pentair Pool app for centralized control" — so the app the FAQ speaks about is this system's app. ③ **Home Assistant core does not cover this product**: home-assistant.io's Pentair ScreenLogic integration page states it "allows you to integrate your Pentair IntelliTouch or EasyTouch pool controller with Home Assistant via the Pentair ScreenLogic gateway" — and the string "IntelliCenter" occurs ZERO times on it. The `partial` level therefore rests on the community integration (github.com/jlvaillant/intellicenter), already cited on this record. — counterparty documentation (BQ-322 batch 5 — claim-coverage cells, read through tools/lib/gated-fetch.mjs), verified 2026-09-03Backs: Google Home compatibility, Home Assistant compatibility
