The names differ by one word and the compatibility does not overlap: iopool's own compatibility grid on this product marks Salt as ✗ for both spa and swimming pool, so a salt-chlorinated pool needs the SALT pack, not this one. ⊕ Separately, iopool sells replacement sensors for both an EcO V1 and an EcO V2 (SKUs ECO-PROBE / SENSORS-CHL-V2), so the line has at least two hardware generations in the field — but the product page for this pack states no generation at all, which is why we leave the generation blank here rather than guess at it.

iopool denies a subscription outright, twice, in its own words: "No subscription" in the benefits list and "There is no subscription." in answer to its own question "Do I need to pay for any subscription?". The app is described as "Free access to the iopool app". ⭐ We record no subscription on the strength of the maker's EXPLICIT DENIAL rather than on silence — a stronger footing than most products on this shelf get, and the reason it is worth stating plainly. ⊕ What replaces the fee is chemistry: iopool says its recommendations are "designed around our products" and sells the tablets, balancers and test strips alongside the monitor. No plan gates the readings, but the advice is tuned to a catalogue you are being pointed at.

What is published is that a battery is serviceable: iopool's US catalogue lists an "ECO V2 - Battery Replacement Kit" ($34.95, SKU BATTERY-KIT) and an "EcO V2 - Replacement Sensors + Battery Kit" ($169, SKU SENSORS-BATTERY-KIT-CHL), so the battery and the sensors are both consumable parts with published prices — useful for a buyer costing out year three, and recorded as the SKUs they are rather than as a lifespan iopool never states. ⊕ Test strips are not retired by this device: iopool states they "are still useful for measuring stabilizer levels, water alkalinity, and hardness, as recommended by the app", so the EcO covers three of the six parameters a strip does. Two catches, and the first one is about what arrives rather than what it does: this pack is on PRE-ORDER. iopool's own page carries a "Pre-order: pay in full" plan with the term "This item will be delivered by September-2026" and a banner promising "priority shipping from September" — so paying $359 today buys a place in a queue, not a monitor in the pool this week. The EcO line itself is real and shipping (iopool stocks spare sensors for two generations of it); this bundle is the part awaiting stock. The second catch is the one that outlasts the first: iopool names not a single smart-home platform anywhere — no Alexa, no Google, no Apple Home, no SmartThings, no Matter. Your pool chemistry lives in the iopool app and nowhere else. ⚠ Two narrower limits worth checking before ordering. Salt pools are OUT: iopool's own compatibility grid marks Salt ✗ for both spa and pool, and there is a separate SALT pack at $409 for that. And without the included cOnnect gateway plugged in, the EcO is a Bluetooth device — iopool states BLE reaches your phone at "approx. 9 m", so remote monitoring is the gateway's job, not the probe's.
Who it's for
A chlorine or bromine pool or hot-tub owner who wants continuous pH, ORP and temperature readings with dosing advice in an app, and who is content for that app to stand alone rather than join the rest of the house. The included gateway is what makes it a remote monitor instead of a walk-to-the-pool one, so it fits someone who wants to check the water from away. Not for a salt pool — iopool sells a different pack for that. Not for anyone who wants pool chemistry beside their lights and locks in a single dashboard, and not for anyone who needs the hardware this month.
