'24,000 samples per second' is a hardware sampling rate, not how often a reading reaches your phone, and Emporia publishes no reporting interval at all — so the figure people cite as this monitor's resolution describes something else. Third, and this is the one to weigh hardest: there is no local access and no public API, both stated by Emporia rather than deduced by us. Every reading this device takes about your home travels to Emporia's servers, and there is no way to read your own panel on your own network. Who it's for
The sensible pick for someone who wants circuit-level visibility on a budget and is content to live inside the vendor's free app. At $199.99 for sixteen circuits it is the cheapest way in this catalogue to see what individual circuits in a whole panel are doing, the app costs nothing in an unusually explicit way, and Ethernet as an alternative to Wi-Fi is a practical advantage if your panel sits in a garage or basement where the signal is poor. It suits someone monitoring more than one property, since Emporia includes multi-property tracking at no extra cost. It is the wrong monitor for an Apple or SmartThings household: Emporia states both as unsupported and holds no Matter certificate, so there is no route in by any path. It is the wrong monitor if local control or data ownership matters to you — the vendor states there is no local access on any of its products and no public API, so this device only ever reports to a company's cloud, and the Shelly meter in this same subcategory is the local-first alternative even though it covers a single circuit rather than a panel.
