⚠ Similar names, different products: ⚠ The number is a model generation, not a capability tier, and on this pair the difference is one a buyer feels in the middle of the night: the Water Leak Sensor 4 (YS7906) carries a 105 dB sounder on the device and low-temperature alerts — THIS sensor has neither. YoLink's own description for the 1 tells you to buy a separate siren: 'Pair your sensor with the YoLink Siren Alarm, for an attention-getting, high-dB alarm activation.' The Water Leak Sensor 2 (YS7904) sits between them, and a 'MoveAlert' version of the 4 adds removal detection. All are on the storefront at once, so check the YS number rather than the name.

This sensor speaks LoRa and nothing else, so without a hub it cannot reach an app, a phone or any smart-home platform — and unlike the Water Leak Sensor 4, it has no sounder of its own, so a hubless unit detects the water and then has no way to tell anyone. What YoLink offers instead of an onboard alarm is a second purchase: 'Pair your sensor with the YoLink Siren Alarm, for an attention-getting, high-dB alarm activation.' Budget the hub (~$23.59–$29.99) on top of the sensor, and a siren too if nobody will be watching a phone.^[2]

On a shelf where leak detection is routinely bundled into a monitoring plan, the absence of one is a real part of the value; the cost is front-loaded into the hub instead.

Sealed to IP68 with the water-sensing probes built into the housing top and bottom, rated '-4°F to 122°F (-20°C to 50°C)' — note that the temperature range is a survival spec, not a freeze-alert feature: this model does not report low temperature at all.

The catch

This is the cheap one, and the price difference from its own siblings is a feature list, not a discount. There is no sounder: the Water Leak Sensor 1 detects water and then depends entirely on the hub, the internet and your phone to tell anyone about it — YoLink's answer is to sell you a separate siren. There are no freeze alerts either, so it covers one of the two ways a pipe ruins a winter rather than both. And the $16.99 is never the real entry price: nothing in this brand works without a hub, and that hub's platform list is the ceiling on everything — Alexa, Google, IFTTT and Home Assistant, with no Apple Home, no SmartThings and no Matter anywhere in the architecture.

Who it's for

Adding the fifth, eighth or twelfth leak sensor to a YoLink system that already has a hub and a siren — at $16.99 with a five-year battery and quarter-mile LoRa range, blanketing every appliance in a big or awkward property becomes affordable in a way WiFi sensors never manage. It is the wrong choice as a first or only leak sensor, and the wrong choice anywhere nobody will see a phone alert, because there is no alarm on the device. Not for Apple Home or SmartThings households: there is no path in.
