Plan prices were checked again on 2026-09-13 on Google's own page and are unchanged: Google Home Premium Standard is $10 a month or $100 a year, Advanced is $20 a month or $200 a year, confirmed by the comparison table and the trial's renewal terms on the same page. The five-year cost estimate shows a range because this camera's paid features span both tiers (round-the-clock history needs Advanced). One correction worth knowing: this record used to list person, animal, vehicle and motion alerts as paid. Google's own comparison table ticks all four under 'No subscription' for exactly this camera, so the free tier is thin but not empty.

Maintenance reality^[8][12]

• Wired only — 12V 0.75A via an 18ft outdoor-rated cable. IP65, rated -4°F to 104°F. No backup battery, so a power cut records nothing; the on-device buffer protects against internet loss, not power loss.

Security updates^[22]

Google Nest declares security updates for this model until October 1, 2030 (US-declared — the maker states this commitment for its US market). After that date the product keeps working; the manufacturer simply has no stated obligation to keep issuing security fixes.

Google's security-updates page lists this camera with a release date of 1 October 2025 and a five-year minimum to 1 October 2030, and marks it as currently receiving critical security updates. Google states the figure as a floor rather than an expiry: the table simply adds five years to the release date, under a commitment that Nest devices get automatic security updates for at least five years from the day Google starts selling them on the US Google Store. Google's UK regulatory statement, signed April 2024, promises the same period in different words, so the two documents agree rather than compete. The promise is anchored to the US store in Google's own sentence, which is why the region is recorded as US.

The catch

The outdoor lineup is not one family at one generation. This wired model is the current 2K/IP65 device; the battery and floodlight Nest cameras are the older 1080p/IP54 generation and were not refreshed alongside it. Choosing wired is also what buys 24/7 continuous history — Google states battery cameras are excluded from it even on the top-tier plan.

Who it's for

Google-ecosystem households wanting 2K outdoor coverage with 24/7 continuous history available, who can run a wired 12V drop and accept a cloud-dependent camera with no user-accessible local storage.
