Genie's support material also uses the SilentMax LED Connect name for model number 7155 itself. What you do need is a working wireless network in the garage and a free Genie Aladdin Connect account, because every phone and voice command travels through Genie's service rather than across your own network. Genie does not state which wireless band this opener needs, so check that before you buy if your network runs on the faster band only.^[1]

No plan to buy, and Genie says it in its own words on this product's page: the Aladdin Connect smartphone app is free. The honest limit is that this is a statement about the app rather than a published no-subscription policy, and it does not cover the one paid route on this record — reaching the opener from Home Assistant costs a Home Assistant Cloud subscription, which is money paid to Home Assistant and not to Genie.

Maintenance reality

• Works without the internet: Not established — we have not sourced this yet. It does not mean the product fails without the internet.
• A 1 1/4 horsepower direct-current motor on a steel-reinforced belt, which is the quiet drive type. Genie states battery backup of up to 50 cycles from the moment the power fails. The opener fits residential sectional doors up to seven feet high; an eight-foot door needs an extension kit Genie sells separately. It pairs with up to sixteen wireless devices, and it works with HomeLink and Car2U in-car buttons. The kit ships with two pre-programmed three-button remotes, a wireless keypad, a multi-function wall console with a vacation lock and light button, and Genie's Safe-T-Beam safety sensors. Genie's warranty on this product page reads five years on parts, one year on accessories and lifetime on the belt and motor; Genie's model page states the same lifetime motor and belt cover. Every app and voice command runs through Genie's service, so remote control stops when the house internet does — the wall console and remotes keep working.

Genie publishes no security-update support date for this model. That is a gap in what the manufacturer has published, not evidence either way — some makers declare a support period and some say nothing at all.

Checked absence rather than an unchecked box. Genie's product page for this opener, Genie's model page, Genie's smart home partners page and Genie's own support answer for model 7155 were all read, and none of them publishes a security-update period, an end-of-support date or a regulatory security declaration. That matches what the same check found across Genie's Aladdin Connect material. What would change this answer: a Genie product-security or compliance page, or a British security declaration of the kind other garage brands file for their European models.

The catch

Two things decide whether this is the right opener for you, and neither is on the box. The first is availability: Genie's own model page still sells this opener through retailers, but Genie's own store shows it Sold out with no price, and it is missing from Genie's own list of the openers it currently sells. Check that it is actually orderable before you plan around it. The second is the Apple question. Genie lists Alexa, Google, SmartThings and Home Assistant as partners for the Aladdin Connect system built into this opener, but Apple Home is not among them — the list names Siri Shortcuts, which only runs an action inside Genie's app and does not put the door in the Home app. And the Home Assistant route, while supported, needs a paid Home Assistant Cloud subscription to sign in, which is an ongoing cost on a product whose own app Genie gives away. Everything smart here travels through Genie's servers, so an internet outage leaves you with the remotes and the wall button. One more practical note: the opener covers doors up to seven feet, and an eight-foot door needs an extension kit bought separately.

Who it's for

A good fit for a household replacing a noisy opener that wants quiet operation, a battery backup good for about fifty door cycles when the power is out, and phone control that works with Alexa, Google or SmartThings without a monthly fee. The included keypad, two remotes and wall console mean nothing else is needed on day one. Look elsewhere if your home runs on Apple Home, since the door will not appear there; if you run Home Assistant and do not want a recurring subscription to sign in; if you need the door to answer when the internet is down; or if you have an eight-foot door and did not plan for the extension kit. And check availability first — Genie's own store is not selling it at the moment.
