Schedules also run without a hub, and Eve is explicit about why: 'As schedules are stored directly on Eve Aqua, they can be run at any time – no matter if Eve Aqua is connected to your iPhone or the internet, and all without requiring a bridge or gateway.' The schedule lives on the device. What needs a hub is remote control and automation: Eve states that 'Controlling this HomeKit-enabled accessory automatically and away from home requires a HomePod or an Apple TV (4th generation or later)'. And to use Thread at all rather than Bluetooth, you need a Thread border router — a HomePod mini, a HomePod (2nd gen), the 2021 Apple TV 4K or the Wi-Fi + Ethernet 2022 model in an Apple household, or Home Assistant hardware with Thread enabled if you go that route.[2][14][27]

This is a native HomeKit accessory — Eve calls it a 'HomeKit-enabled accessory' — running over Thread and Bluetooth, controlled from the Home app, the Eve app, Siri or the button on the unit. Full rather than partial because Apple Home is the platform this product was built for rather than one it was adapted to. Two requirements Eve states plainly and buyers routinely miss: 'Controlling this HomeKit-enabled accessory automatically and away from home requires a HomePod or an Apple TV (4th generation or later)', and using Thread rather than Bluetooth needs a Thread border router, which for Apple means a HomePod, the 2021 Apple TV 4K or the Wi-Fi + Ethernet 2022 model. Eve also lists under Requirements 'iPhone or iPad with the latest version of iOS/iPadOS' — there is no Android path to this product at all.[2][14][25][27]

Eve's architecture is the substantive reason rather than just a pricing choice: this is a HomeKit-over-Thread accessory with schedules stored on the device, so there is no vendor cloud account to subscribe to in the first place. One deliberate omission: Eve's store carries marketing copy elsewhere describing products as working 'without subscriptions or cloud dependency', but that sentence belongs to a different product on the same page and is not transferred here.
