No hub for the device alone

Choose a platform above for its connection. A hub can be optional for the device itself and required for a platform or automation.

No hub. The machine joins your Wi-Fi directly, and its Matter certificates record the transport as Wi-Fi — so it commissions into a Matter platform natively, with no Dyson bridge in between. Every connected feature Dyson advertises for this machine — app control of airflow, oscillation, Sleep mode and the Sleep timer; seven-day scheduling; live and historical air-quality data; the Matter route — is described without a plan, a tier or a paywall, and no pricing surface for the MyDyson app was found. What the app DOES require is stated by Dyson in its own footnote and is worth knowing: 'Requires device to run app, Wi-Fi or mobile data, Bluetooth 4.0 support, and iOS version 10 or Android version 5 (or above). Standard data and messaging rates may apply.' The real recurring cost in this category is not software but the filter, and that is recorded under maintenance.

The catch

The single most useful thing to know is that the old line on Dyson is wrong for this machine. 'Dyson doesn't do Apple Home' was true for years and is not true here: Dyson's own page carries a 'Compatible with Matter' section naming Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home, and the Purifier Cool De-NOx line is certified at Matter 1.4 as an Air Purifier over Wi-Fi. That is a native, local, no-bridge route into all three ecosystems. It is also strictly generation-specific — it says nothing about an older Dyson, and buying guides that lump the brand together will mislead you in both directions. Second, the performance question, which is where Dyson is genuinely unlike every other brand in this category. You will not find a CADR number for this machine, and that is not an oversight — it is a position. Dyson petitioned the US Department of Energy on 2024-09-11 to revoke the rules requiring manufacturers to express air-cleaner room-size coverage using CADR measured by the AHAM test, arguing in its petition that the test 'suffers from severe flaws that result in CADRs that do not have real-world validity' and produces 'misleading information reaching consumers'. DOE published the petition for comment on 2025-04-30 and stated it 'is not revoking or staying enforcement of the test procedure and representations provisions raised in Dyson's petition at this time'. So the right reading of a missing CADR here is 'declined', not 'unknown' — Dyson has a public, documented, argued objection to the industry's comparison metric, which also means you cannot line this machine up against a Levoit or a Coway on the one number designed to make that comparison possible. Who it's for

The right buyer is someone who wants a purifier that is also a cooling fan and a piece of furniture, in a household running Apple Home, Alexa or Google Home — because this generation finally gives all three a native Matter route with no bridge, which is the thing Dyson owners spent years not having. It suits a Home Assistant user for the same reason: Matter means local control, which is the only part of this machine that does not depend on Dyson's cloud. It also suits someone whose actual problem is gases rather than particles — NO₂ from a gas hob, formaldehyde, cooking odours — since that is what the K-Carbon filter and the catalytic filter are built for and where Dyson's own testing claims are pitched. Think twice if you shop by the numbers. There is no CADR figure for this machine and there will not be one: Dyson has formally petitioned the US government to stop requiring the metric, so the comparison you would naturally make against a Levoit or a Coway is unavailable by the manufacturer's choice. Think twice too if annual running cost matters and you want it settled before you buy — the filter interval is published, the filter price is not. And do not buy this record's Apple answer for a Dyson you already own: it applies to the 2025 De-NOx generation and to nothing older.
