One of the few cameras on this shelf with genuine HomeKit Secure Video rather than a Home-app tile: Aqara headlines it, and Apple's own accessory list shows this camera with HomeKit Secure Video support, so live view and recording in Apple Home work. No plan is required for the camera's own functions. Aqara's storefront describes 'encrypted eMMC storage with NAS support' and footage 'analyzed locally', and its specification table lists a 30-day free cloud-storage trial as the optional extra. The AI that most cameras rent to you monthly runs on this one's own silicon: Aqara says it 'detects faces, vehicles, and sounds like alarms and baby cries' and keeps 'local automations even during internet outages'. A camera that keeps thinking when the internet stops is a different product from one that stops seeing.

Maintenance and offline use

Aqara declares security updates for this model until December 31, 2026 (UK-declared — the maker's legal commitment is filed for the United Kingdom). After that date the product keeps working; the manufacturer simply has no stated obligation to keep issuing security fixes.

Aqara has signed two different promises for this camera. Its UK statements, signed in December 2024 for the wired-network model and May 2025 for the Wi-Fi model, promise security updates until 31 December 2026. Its Australian statements, signed on 20 August 2025, promise at least five years from launch for the Wi-Fi model and at least three years for the wired-network model, counted from a launch day Aqara does not publish. We show the UK date because it is the shorter of the promises Aqara has signed, and a date a buyer plans around should be one the maker has put in writing everywhere it sells. Aqara's general policy page promises at least 2 years for certain models, and its EU data statement that lists this camera states no support period.

The catch

The name hides a fork in the road: 'Camera Hub G5 Pro' is two different SKUs, and the PoE version at $229.99 has no Wi-Fi radio at all — its connectivity row lists Ethernet, Zigbee/Thread and Bluetooth, so buying it commits you to running a network cable. The hub half is real but quieter than the doorbell sibling's: Aqara names Zigbee, Thread and Matter here without publishing the device-count ceilings it publishes for the G350. And outside Apple Home, what Aqara documents crossing over is the video: a stream to smart displays for Alexa, Google and SmartThings, and a local stream for Home Assistant.

Aqara's signed statements for this camera promise security updates until 31 December 2026 in the UK and at least 3 or 5 years from launch in Australia, and its general policy page promises at least 2 years for certain models, so this page goes by the UK date because it is the shortest promise Aqara has signed.

Who it's for

An outdoor camera for an Apple household that actually wants HomeKit Secure Video, or for anyone who would rather their camera's AI ran on the camera — it identifies faces, vehicles and alarm sounds locally and keeps working when the internet does not. The -22°F floor makes it one of the few here honestly rated for a cold climate. Choose the Wi-Fi SKU unless you can run Ethernet, in which case the PoE model buys one cable for power and data.
