Security updates[12]

Abode publishes no security-update support date for this model. That is a gap in what the manufacturer has published, not evidence either way — some makers declare a support period and some say nothing at all.

Verified absence. abode's help centre covers devices, plans and billing, orders, the app and product news across roughly 130 articles, and publishes no security-update period, firmware support horizon or end-of-support policy anywhere in it. That absence is worth stating on a record whose whole product category is security: the gateway that arms a household's alarm carries no published commitment to keep being patched. Recheck condition: abode's Product News collection is where such a policy would appear if one is published.

The catch

Abode sells two hubs with nearly identical names, and the cheaper one drops the two things Abode is known for. The $150 Abode Security Kit has no Apple Home and no Zigbee or Z-Wave — its own product page says "This hub is not compatible with HomeKit" — while the Smart Security Kit here has all three. Abode's own FAQ muddies it further by calling the better hub "a Security Hub." Shopping on price lands you on the kit that cannot do the thing you came for. Second: automations do not run at all on the free tier, and cellular backup — the thing that keeps an alarm alive when the internet is cut — is Pro-tier only. Third: the hub has no Wi-Fi. It stays wired to your router by Ethernet for good, not just during setup, so where the router sits decides where the hub sits.

Who it's for

Apple Home households, which have almost no other alarm option, and anyone who wants Zigbee or Z-Wave sensors on the same hub as their alarm. Check the hub name on the box before buying.
